Huffington Post - over 3 years
Americans desperate for a figure to rally behind would be wise to watch the first trailer for Sony's remake of "RoboCop." Directed by Jose Padilha, the film stars Joel Kinnaman as the title police machine, an honest cop who gets exploded by the bad guys and turned into RoboCop. Fans of Paul Verhoeven's subversive and violent original film will note that this version of "RoboCop" carries a PG-13 rating, but what the film lacks in gore, it makes up for in big names. Supporting players include Michael Keaton, Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish, Michael K. Williams, Jay Baruchel and Samuel L. Jackson, wearing the best wig this side of Lady Gaga. "RoboCop" will serve and protect on Feb. 7, 2014. Watch the trailer above or head to Apple to see it in HD.

GO 'GIRL'!
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Rosamund Pike has been offered the lead role in "Gone Girl," this according to The Hollywood Reporter. Pike would play Amy Dunne, the duplicitous wife of the equally duplicitous Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) in the film for director David Fincher. What's more, THR reports that Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry have been added to the roster of possible supporting players in "Gone Girl." The prospect of Perry and Affleck, both filmmakers themselves, being paired with Fincher immediately make this project even more intriguing than any normal adaptation. (What tricks will the actors learn from Fincher, and vice versa?) "Gone Girl" is based on the crazy best-selling book from Gillian Flynn. As previously reported, actresses like Natalie Portman, Olivia Wilde, Charlize Theron and Abbie Cornish were considered for the big role. More on Pike's casting and the project can be found at THR. The Week’s Best Dressed Star: Abbie Cornish
People Magazine - over 4 years
Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage When we first saw this gray floral gown come down the Reem Acra spring 2013 runway at New York Fashion Week last month, we wondered which lucky Hollywood actress would get to wear it. The honor went to Abbie Cornish, who slipped into the sexy, plunging creation (it’s also totally bare in the back) for the premiere of Seven Psychopaths in L.A. on Monday. And judging by how gorgeous she looked, it’s no surprise that 16,000 StyleWatch readers voted her ensemble as their favorite on the red carpet this week. Also at the top of the list: Gillian Anderson at the Great Expectations premiere in Rome, arriving in a floor-length, low-cut black number with teal and orange detailing. Rounding out the top five was Leslie Bibb, followed by Nikki Reed and Eva Longoria. To see more stars in stunning designer gowns, head over to our Red Carpet Spotlight page. Red Carpet Trend Report: The Scoop on Plunging Dresses, Braids & Odd Pairings
People Magazine - over 4 years
WireImage; Getty; Splash News Online This week’s two up-and-coming fashion fads are ones that we can definitely get on board with: super-sexy necklines and funky braids. But we have to admit we’re a little sad that summer is most definitely over and it’s finally time to retire this week’s on-the-way-out look. Up: Plunging lace dresses: A down-to-there neckline ups the hot factor of any look, but it’s especially sexy and unexpected when it’s seen on a lace dress. Must be something about the combination of an utterly ladylike fabric and the va-va-voom silhouette. Case in point: The flash of skin on Abbie Cornish’s metallic gray Reem Acra gown. It added a youthful vibe to what could have been a slightly stuffy look. And just when we thought this look was best suited for young stars, Cynthia Nixon hit the red carpet in a plunging lace Calvin Klein number and proved to us that there’s no age limit on this trend. Up: Braids with a twist: After a summer full of boho braids and fis ...

Red Carpet Trend Report: What’s Sizzling and What’s Fizzling
People Magazine - over 4 years
FilmMagic; Startraksphoto (2) If you can’t wait to see what the most stylish TV stars wear to Sunday’s Emmy Awards, get a quick red carpet fashion fix by reading up on the trends we’re loving this week — plus the one we hope we don’t spot during the night’s big show. Up: Revealing lace panels: Christina Aguilera, Lea Michele and Abbie Cornish are really bringing sexy back to the red carpet with their peek-a-boo lace numbers — and we don’t mind at all! Aguilera’s sheer sleeves and sides add just enough sex appeal to her otherwise simplistic Michael Kors gown. Up: Baroque-inspired dresses: Regal baroque prints are going to be huge this fall, but it looks like one of our favorite fashionistas, Selena Gomez, wanted to road-test it before everyone else in the form of a black-and-gold Dolce & Gabbana sheath. Down: Flowy white numbers: We’re all for breaking the no white after Labor Day rule, but Heidi Klum‘s strapless BCBG Max Azria number just feels too summery. If she w ...

Jose Padilha Addresses RoboCop Remarks
Dread Central - over 4 years
Last week a website called Cinema Com Rapadura posted a story about director Jose Padilha being in RoboCop Remake Hell. Immediately following that, a shitstorm started brewing around the Internet. Today Padilha has addressed those remarks and rumors. Our friends at Latino Review did some translating of a recent interview Padilha did with Cinema em Cena in which he states... “I have a script I’m happy with, and I got the cast I have picked. The director of photography is Lula Carvalho, my editor is Daniel Rezende (City of God, Elite Squad, The Tree of Life). I was even consulted for the selection of the producers.” When asked about the rumors of him having a bad time while in pre-production for RoboCop: “We deal with those difficulties with coolness and familiarity.” Smart answer. Jose Padilha's film is gearing up for a September start in Toronto and thus far stars Joel Kinnaman as the title hero plus Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Jay Baruchel, Michael Keaton, Michael Ke ...

Michael Keaton In 'Robocop,' Takes Role Once Pegged For Hugh Laurie
Moviefone Blog - over 4 years
Because there's always room for more Michael Keaton in the world, the under-appreciated star has joined the increasingly excellent cast of "Robocop." He'll play the villain in the remake, a role initially pegged for "House" star Hugh Laurie. Due in theaters on Aug. 9, 2013, the new "Robocop" comes from "Elite Squad" director Jose Padilha. Joel Kinnaman stars as Alex Murphy/Robocop, with Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jay Baruchel, Jackie Earle Haley, Abbie Cornish, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Michael K. Williams and Jennifer Ehle on board as well. "Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film, and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place," Padilha said in a statement to THR. "It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of RoboCop to life. We’ve got a great script, a great cast, some killer ED-209s, and I can’t wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets." While Padilha is excited, not every ...

Hugh Laurie Turns Down 'RoboCop' Villain Role
MTV News - over 4 years
"RoboCop" has lost one of the biggest names from its roster. News broke back in June that Hugh Laurie was in talks to play the main villain in "RoboCop," but assumptions that he had signed on board were premature. Variety's Jeff Sneider tweeted that Laurie is now officially out of the potential role. "HUGH LAURIE definitely out of ROBOCOP reboot, not that he was ever 'in,'" he said. That means that the part of Omni Corp's evil CEO is still up for grabs. We're sure that it won't take long for director Jose Padilha to fill that role, and he probably has a whole list of other big Hollywood actors interested in the part. "RoboCop" does have one of the most impressive casts that we've seen recently, after all. Currently signed on are Joel Kinnaman, Abbie Cornish, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jay Baruchel, Jennifer Ehle, Jackie Earle Haley and Michael Kenneth Williams. "RoboCop" follows a Detroit police officer named Alex Murphy who is killed while trying to fend off some loc ...

Exclusive 'Seven Psychopaths' Character Poster Gets Passive Aggressive
MTV News - over 4 years
Yesterday, the first trailer for Martin McDonagh's "In Bruges" follow-up, "Seven Psychopaths," debuted and revealed what kind of insanity is in store for us when the film opens nationwide on October 12, shortly after its premiere during TIFF's Midnight Madness. The preview did an excellent job filling us in on just exactly who the titular psychopaths are, but today, MTV Movies Blog is premiering a brand new character poster featuring one of them, played by Abbie Cornish. Check out the full poster and see the trailer after the jump! As described in the trailer and on the poster, Cornish is the fifth psychopath, "the passive-aggressive girlfriend." Written and Directed by Oscar®-winner Martin McDonagh, the comedy Seven Psychopaths follows a struggling screenwriter (Colin Farrell) who inadvertently becomes entangled in the Los Angeles criminal underworld after his oddball friends (Christopher Walken and Sam Rockwell) kidnap a gangster’s (Woody Harrelson) beloved Shih Tzu. ...

Michael Kenneth Williams Stares Down The Barrel Of 'RoboCop'
MTV News - over 4 years
Alex Murphy's partner in Jose Padilha's "RoboCop" remake is close to being cast, and the character could be played by... Michael Kenneth Williams? Color us curious about this deviation from Paul Verhoeven's original movie. In that film, Nancy Allen played Murphy's partner Anne Lewis, and their non-romantic relationship provided much of the film's heart. But The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Williams' character would "play the partner to [Joel] Kinnaman’s police officer Alex Murphy who is tight with Murphy’s family," making it the biggest change from the reboot's source material. That means it will likely be Abbie Cornish's role as Murphy's wife that will be the main female character in the movie. Presumably she'll be a bit more present in this film than Murphy's wife was in Verhoeven's take. Recently cast Jennifer Ehle could also get the honor, though we don't know much about her character "Liz Kline." Still, Michael Kenneth Williams would be a great addition to the "Robo ...
