Taran Killam Slams His Own Movie In The Most 'SNL' Way
Huffington Post - 5 months
The news that Taran Killam wasn’t coming back to “SNL” was shocking, but that’s still not as surprising as the review he gave his own movie in a sit-down with The Huffington Post. The Huffington Post caught up with Killam and his “Brother Nature” co-star Bobby Moynihan at the AOL Build studios on Thursday, and the pair broke out their “SNL” characters, Jebidiah Atkinson (Killam), a notoriously curmudgeonly critic, and Drunk Uncle (Moynihan), a character that’s self-explanatory, to review the new flick. In a HuffPost Entertainment Snapchat, Killam’s Atkinson said, ”Personally, I laughed more at ‘Deliverance,’” while Drunk Uncle simply added the word, “Immigrants.” Jebidiah Atkinson and Drunk Uncle have strong opinions on "Brother Nature." Beth Einhorn on Being the Only Woman Writer for The Tonight Show
Huffington Post - about 3 years
It's well known that late night TV talk shows are a male-dominated field. As Jay Leno hands over The Tonight Show to Jimmy Fallon, I caught up with Beth Einhorn, who was the only female writer on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for three years. Darryle Pollack: You've worked as a Writer/Producer/Director on shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Chris Rock Show, The Man Show, the George Carlin Specials on HBO, Saturday Night Live. Tell me about getting hired as a writer for The Tonight Show. Beth Einhorn: Like other shows I've worked on, it was people I've previously worked with. In this case, two writers at the show, Anthony Caleca and Andy McElfresh, who recommended me and got me in to meet the head writer. Adam Carolla also recommended me which was very nice. The head writer looked at my website and brought me back to meet with Jay, and I was hired. DP: There haven't been many women in that job. BE: Yes, I think in the history of The Tonight Show there have only been six female writ ...

Fred Armisen Confirms He's Leaving SNL After 11 Years
US Magazine - over 3 years
Fred Armisen's Saturday Night Live days are over. The celebrated cast member, 46, confirmed he won't be returning for new episodes of NBC's live sketch comedy show during a June 28 interview with Splitsider. (Around the time Bill Hader announced he was leaving SNL just before its May 18 season finale, Armisen was rumored to be quitting, too.) "I didn't do any kind of official announcement, but I really felt like it was obvious," said Armisen, who was once married to Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss and later dated former SNL cast member Abby Elliott. "An ending that was a love letter to all the music I grew up with, and also to my friends and to SNL and to [creator Lorne Michaels] and to the cast. There was a lot of emotion attached to it, but it was a very positive emotion." PHOTOS: Stars' funniest SNL moments (During the May 18 episode, the final sketch featured Armisen, Hader, Jason Sudeikis and Taran Killam playing a British rock band saying their goodbyes on the final night of a ...

Elisabeth Moss Opens Up About Marriage
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
"Mad Men" actress Elisabeth Moss doesn't mince words when it comes to discussing her 8-month marriage to "Saturday Night Live" funnyman Fred Armisen. A year after saying that the "greatest impersonation [Armisen] does is that of a normal person," the 30-year-old actress gave more insight into what she learned from her marriage to the comedian in an interview with The New York Times. "Oh, God. I learned so much," Moss told the Times in early March. "Not to be at all Oprah on you, but it is one of those things where you are kind of glad to have learned those lessons at an early age -- to get them out of the way." Moss and Armisen married in October 2009 and split in May 2010. Less than a week after their split, Armisen was reportedly dating SNL co-star Abby Elliott. His relationship with Elliott ended in September 2011. Moss has recently been linked to Australian cinematographer Adam Arkapaw. In January 2013, Armisen admitted to Howard Stern that he was a "terri ...

Mike Ryan: How Did Daniel Craig Do On 'Saturday Night Live'?
Huffington Post - over 4 years
Last year, during the press rounds for "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," director David Fincher told me that Daniel Craig was quite funny. I took Fincher at his word -- but the thought, Wait, really? did pop into my head at least twice. As host of "Saturday Night Live," Craig seemed raring to go -- he was practically screaming, "I want to prove to you that I am funny! No, really, I am!" Unfortunately, for the most part, the material just wasn't there. (Put it this way: In the three-year history of "SNL" Scorecard, this is the longest I've just stared at my computer thinking, Well, I guess I have to pick something to be "Sketch of the Night," right?) I hate second-guessing (even though that's what I'm paid to do here, I suppose), but I think the better strategy with Craig might have been to let him play the straight man while absurd things happened around him, as opposed to letting him play the clown. Alas, on to the Scorecard... Sketch of the Night "Bond Girls" ( ...

Jay Pharoah Taking Over Barack Obama Role On 'SNL'
Huffington Post - over 4 years
"Saturday Night Live" is getting a new Barack Obama. Lorne Michaels told the New York Times on Wednesday that Jay Pharoah, a young castmember who is entering his first season as a featured player, will be taking over the role from Fred Armisen, who has played the president since the 2008 election. "Jay has been doing Obama in his act this summer, and Jay is coming into his own," Michaels told the Times. "I just thought it might be time to shake it up." Armisen's Obama has never risen to the beloved heights of, say, Darrell Hammond's Bill Clinton or Will Ferrell's George W. Bush. Moreover, when he was chosen for the part in 2008, people immediately pointed out that the first African-American president was not actually being played by a black man on "SNL." By promoting Pharoah, who is black, the show solves that issue. Pharoah's elevation is just one of many changes the show is going through as it enters its 38th season. Castmembers Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and Abb ...

'SNL' Eyes Two New Cast Members
Huffington Post - over 4 years
Looks like "SNL" may be planning on bringing Chicago comedians Aidy Bryant and Tim Robinson on board for next week's season premiere. Ever since Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg and Abby Elliott officially left "Saturday Night Live" at the end of last season, rumors have swirled that the NBC sketch show would add a few new supporting players to fill out the cast. On Friday afternoon, comedy insider blog The Comic's Comic cited multiple sources claiming that two of those additions will be Bryant and Robinson, who both hail from Chicago's sketch and improv scene. The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline have also verified that "SNL" is nearing a deal with the two performers. While NBC did not return calls about the news, the timing of the rumor points to its likely accuracy. "SNL" producers have been scouting for talent throughout the country this summer in preparation of next week's season premiere, and no news about casting decisions has yet been formally announced. If Bryant ...
