Stunning Photos Show Evolution Of The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show
Huffington Post - 3 months
The day we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived: The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show airs tonight. Based on photos that have emerged in the days since this year’s show filmed, it’s evident that the flashy production, which has only gotten more elaborate over the years, maintains its reputation in 2016.  But if there’s one thing that has gone unchanged since the show’s humble beginnings, it’s the models’ excitement about walking that coveted runway. Kendall Jenner has been quoted repeatedly calling the show her ultimate dream, and the same goes for best friend and fellow supermodel Gigi Hadid. The iconic models who came before have held the show at that same regard. Heidi Klum credits the show with making her a “household name.” Adriana Lima, the brand’s longest running model, was quoted at age 18 as saying she thinks the “dream of a lot of girls” would be to work with the brand. So, while the show has changed drastically over the years into the mega-produced holiday ...

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Broadcast Used To Be Intensely Creepy
Huffington Post - 3 months
You’ll never watch “My Best Friend’s Wedding” the same way again. The year was 2001. Adriana Lima was 20 years old, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was 6 years old and for some reason, Rupert Everett was the host.  If it bothers you that a televised broadcast of beautiful women parading down a runway in their underwear is one of the most highly anticipated spectacles of the holiday season, wait until you see this cringeworthy, 15-year-old footage we dug up on YouTube. Folks, we’ve come a long way. Everett, giving off decidedly non-Prince Charming vibes, spends an uncomfortable 40 minutes saying things like, “The security is tight and so are the girls,” and calling attractive women “delicious crumpets.” All the blame can’t be put on Everett’s shoulders. There’s also a mirror cam, which catches the girls unknowingly as they adjust their outfits and check themselves out. Anouck Lepere, one of the models who walked in the show that year, sums it up: “Imagin ...

I Attended The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, And I Felt Obese
Huffington Post - 3 months
The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is the holy grail for all models. At least, that's what they claim during interviewees. So as a journalist, it was quite flattering to receive an invitation. The invitation was clear and stern. If you want to be part of the party, you'll have to follow certain guidelines, it said. The electronic invitation spelled out security measures -- handbags must be a certain size -- and insisted on a strict dress code: cocktail attire. Photos and videos: strictly prohibited. I arrived, and I waited in line. Then, another line. As I waited, I faced a swarm of bow ties on tuxedos and an endless stream of sequin dresses. Legs were already starting to seem longer than usual. This fashion show was unlike anything else I've ever experienced. I was taking part in a "unique event," the loudspeakers reminded me as I took my seat. They were also reminding the millions and millions of viewers "around the world," who are scheduled to watch a broadcast of the show ...

What the Angels Are Most Nervous About Before The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show
Huffington Post - 3 months
For Allure, by Jessica Chia. Standing in front of a crowd is anxiety-inducing. Standing in front of a crowd in your underwear is a nightmare (I've woken up in cold sweats thanks to dreams like this). Walking down a catwalk in that underwear, in front of millions of viewers, on a nationally televised program, and having some semblance of fun while doing it—that’s panic attack material. Unless you’re a Victoria’s Secret Angel. Then it’s another day at work. But even the pros get preshow jitters. These are the nail-biters the Angels actually sweat before the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show: The wings: “I’m closing a section for the first time this year, and I’m wearing these huge wings. I’m so excited to do it, but I’m really nervous because I cannot mess it up. I just want to make the moment perfect!” —Sara Sampaio The shoes: “I have really high-heeled shoes in one of my looks—and the song playing during that segment is pretty upbeat, so I’m nervous about those. They’re p ...

FYI, You Should Actually Be Putting Perfume In Your Belly Button
Huffington Post - 4 months
If you love to spritz on a signature scent, we have bad news for you: you’ve been doing it wrong. You probably know to put perfume on your neck and wrists. That’s because these spots are known as “pulse points,” or areas where you can feel a heartbeat on your body. Body heat emanating from pulse points can intensify a fragrance. But there are several other points on your body that you’re probably missing. First up? Your belly button. Experts say your belly button is a prime location for fragrance. Its shape serves as a natural repository for scent, and your body heat will allow the scent to radiate. Celebs like Liv Tyler and Adriana Lima swear by this trick.  “I put little drops on my fingers and put some under my arms and in my belly button,” Tyler told Into The Gloss. “My dad taught me that—if you put it where you heat up, the smell stays with you.” You can also apply perfume inside your elbows and behind your knees for a longer-lasting scent. Since your knees and elb ...
