What Don't We Get About Donald Trump's Humor?
Huffington Post - over 1 year
Donald Trump is catching a certain amount of flack in the gotcha media this week for an act of satirical pantomimicry he performed, imitating a man with a congenital musculoskeletal disorder. I'm not sure if it will help or hurt Trump's political chances. It would be grossly insincere for me to pretend to understand what his supporters think. If you think Donald Trump would make a good president, I don't know where you draw the line, taste-wise. "Yes, he sometimes comes off a little insensitive. But in his defense, he is the worst person in the universe." Maybe that's a little strong. Jared from Subway is objectively worse. Although, unlike Donald Trump, who's never done anything that wasn't shoddy and base and cheap and vulgar and repulsive, Jared did encourage people to eat fresh. Plus you can't write off a whole candidacy over one inopportune comic impression. When George W. Bush was running in 1999, he imitated Karla Faye Tucker, a woman he'd executed: 'Please,' Bush whimp ...

Badass Spanish Soccer Star Disguised As A Dude Crushes Male Opponents
Huffington Post - over 1 year
Female soccer stars tend to receive far less worldwide attention than their male counterparts, but that doesn't mean they can't outplay the boys. Brenda Perez is a professional Spanish soccer player -- and a kick-ass one at that. She's got the skills to shoot past any one she's up against, and show that women can play soccer at the same level as men. Perez proved this by going undercover as a dude on the Spanish TV show “El Hormiguero.” They fitted her with a latex mask and facial hair and transformed Brenda Perez into "Dani Perez" to take on some male soccer pros during a non-league match in Madrid.  In a move reminiscent of Amanda Bynes' character in the 2006 classic film "She's The Man," Perez shows off her expert footwork and breezes past the unsuspecting male players with ease.  Watch her take on the guys below, and pay special attention to the moment she reveals her identity. The look on her opponent's faces is priceless: Seriously, it's the epitome of sho ...

7 Teen Movies Based On Shakespeare That Would Make Him Roll Over In His Grave
Huffington Post - almost 2 years
Happy birthday, William Shakespeare! Well, happy death day, at least. We observe both the birth and the death of the Bard on the date he died, April 23, though his birthdate has not been confirmed. Billy, not yet rolling in his grave. Here's what we do know: This is the 399th anniversary of Shakespeare's death, and his outsize importance to Western culture looms as large as ever. Christopher Marlowe would be lime-green with envy over the popularity of his one-time rival's plays; there are entire theater troupes devoted to performing Shakespeare, and the finest actors jockey to commit their portrayals of Hamlet and Lady Macbeth to film. Oh, and then there are the remixes. "West Side Story," "Kiss Me, Kate," A Thousand Acres -- many of Shakespeare's plays were themselves retellings of historical events or classic tales, and the appeal of the narratives has only grown with his magical touch. One can't help but wonder, however, if some of these adaptations would make the great ...

The Health of Hollywood... Or Not!
Huffington Post - about 3 years
So I sat in the salon awaiting my oh-so-needed pedicure and was handed a few popular entertainment magazines to peruse during my treatment. I really don't read these celebrity publications, so for me, it was a lot of work catching up on Hollywood's latest fashion do's and don'ts, engagements, marriages, babies, affairs, scandals, lock-ups/arrests, rehab check-ins, drug overdoses and more. Hollywood is a mecca of rising stars, movie and musical wanna-be's. Actors, musicians, producers and filmmakers flock there to make their mark and achieve success and fame. While many have exceptional talent and express their creative soul, many often become captive in a continuous search for more fame, money, EGO gratification and the next handsome hunk or beautiful babe. There really isn't another city in the U.S. (New York may be a close second) which houses many very creative "entertainment" people searching for that "break" or that next big (movie/tv) "hit." And after having achieved a taste o ...

The Seven Stages of Post-Finals Grief
Huffington Post - about 3 years
The end of January meant a lot of things: the presidential address, the Super Bowl, the end of the first month of 2014. But for almost every high school student in America, none of those other things mattered because of what else happened, something so sinister that the mere mention of it sends chills down the adolescent spine. For one week, school halls filled to the brim with bleary-eyed, sweat pants-clad students aimlessly wandering around like zombies, nose buried in a study guide or textbook. That's right. It was finals week. Of course, finals week may not be one of the worst things that could happen to a person, but it's definitely up there. The monumental amounts of pressure behind one single test irrecoverably transforming your grade is enough to make anyone hyperventilate. Add in hours upon hours of study guides and studying, and you've got a recipe for most high schoolers' worst nightmare. But possibly the worst part is the Waiting Phase, the phase between taking the test an ...

Amanda Bynes Is Getting Her Angel Wings Tattoo Removed
Huffington Post - about 3 years
Amanda Bynes is no angel ... Literally. According to some recent photos, the star has been undergoing treatments to remove the angel wings tattooed on her arm. Recent photographs of the actress show lighter, redder lines replacing the thick black ones that had composed her heavenly tattoo. This is a sign of having undergone laser tattoo removal treatment. Bynes joins the likes of Kelly Osbourne, 50 Cent and Heidi Klum, who've all undergone the painful process of removing body ink. The decision to remove her tattoo is likely coming as part of Bynes' post–rehab lifestyle change. The actress was released from rehab in early December after undergoing four months of treatment for mental illness. Since her release, Bynes has taken big steps to put her life on a positive track. Soon after rehab, Bynes debuted healthy long blond hair that reminded the world of her pre-Twitter meltdown days. This month, the 27–year–old has enrolled in fashion school to kickstart a new career direction. ...

Juliette Bains: Glued to celebrity meltdowns as they start to look like mugs
Yorkshire Evening Post - about 3 years
You can bet that most photos we see of celebs strutting down the red carpet have been meticulously planned down to even the tiniest detail. But there’s a refreshing vulnerability when it comes to their somewhat unexpected celebrity mugshots. Gawky, shy and embarrassed, the image of an awkward Hugh Grant in that infamous mugshot after his brush with the law is etched in our memories. The British actor’s involvement with a prostitute in LA was one of the biggest celebrity scandals at the time, and his shocked fans felt duped after falling for his previously charming image. There’s something about that photo that shows us another side to the actor. His awkward body language, the now totally unfashionable glasses slung over the collar of his creased polo shirt and the ‘Why the hell did I do that?’ look on his face points to a vulnerable, more human version of the Hollywood pin-up, who had previously been put on a pedestal. Grant was 34 years old at the time, confessed quickly to the ...

He's Justin Bieber: Or So He's Been Told
Huffington Post - about 3 years
You could say that Justin Bieber's recent arrest was inevitable. At the very least, predictable. His bad behavior, after all, has been escalating for a while. Last summer, he was caught on camera squirting cleaning fluid and shouting expletives at a photograph of former president Bill Clinton. That same night, he urinated into a mop bucket used to clean restaurant floors. In November, he got into a Twitter feud with the president of Mexico. Last week, a neighbor alleged Bieber pelted his house with 20 eggs, prompting a police investigation, and just three days ago, the 19-year-old racked up a $75,000 tab at a Miami strip club. Could reckless driving be far behind? And yet, when he was arrested -- for driving under the influence and drag racing, along with resisting arrest -- he displayed, or so it seems, none of the panic another his age might. Among his comments to the officer who pulled him over just after 4 a.m., in fact: "Why the f**k are you doing this?" and "I ain't got no f*** ...

Amanda Bynes' Bong-Throwing Case To Be Dismissed If She Continues Counseling
Huffington Post - about 3 years
Amanda Bynes got some good news regarding her bong-tossing debacle. The case will be dismissed from court in six months, so long as Bynes continues to receive counseling twice a week and stays out of legal trouble. The former child star did not appear in court on Friday (Jan. 10) when her attorney, Gerald Shargel, filed an affidavit saying that she has agreed to continue her counseling in hopes of seeing the case dropped. After leaving the courthouse, Shargel told reporters, "She's making progress and we're very pleased," but that she has a "long road" ahead of her. Bynes, 27, was charged with reckless endangerment and marijuana possession in May of 2013 after she allegedly tossed a bong out the window of her 36th-floor Manhattan apartment. She recently completed a six-month rehab stint at an inpatient facility in Malibu after being involuntarily hospitalized on a 5150 hold for starting a small fire. She has continued her recovery with outpatient treatment and is reconnecting with ...

Here are your nominees for the Absolute WORST Person in the World for 2013 EVER! by Ann Romano Darlings! Once again we dip our perfectly manicured nails into the sludge bucket of gossip and innuendo that dominated the tabloids in 2013, in order to discover who, indeed, was the Absolute Worst Person in the World for 2013 Ever! And here are the TOP NINE MOST TERRIBLE NOMINEES IN ASCENDING ORDER OF HORRIBLENESS: #9: DR. PHIL Unnngggghhhh. We hate even saying his name. And while this pear-shaped quack is detestable on average, he really outdid himself this year. For example... TUESDAY, AUGUST 20 The decidedly fat-headed Dr. Phil topped himself today in the category of loathsomeness when he twattered the following: "If a girl is drunk, is it OK to have sex with her? Reply yes or no to @DrPhil." WOW. Besides the thousands of people reminding Dr. Phil that "rape is rape" no matter what the woman's physical condition may be, responden ...
