David Threlfall interview: The actor takes a forensic approach in Code of a Killer as he leaves Shameless's Frank Gallagher behind
The Independent - almost 2 years
Actor David Threlfall, who is not to be confused with actor David Thewlis ("Ask him about Anna Friel," suggested one of my colleagues), doesn't grant many press interviews. That sense that he might be prickly with journalists, as well as the over-riding image of Threlfall as Shameless's lank-haired, permanently-caked, poet-of-the gutter Frank Gallagher, made me somewhat apprehensive about trundling along to ask him a load of personal questions – and didn't prepare me for the good-humoured man sitting in ITV's London offices. Mind you, it was a sunny Friday morning in early spring, enough to make anyone feel cheerful.

Dan Persons: Mighty Movie Podcast: Michael Winterbottom on Look of Love
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Director Michael Winterbottom and star Steve Coogan have reunited for a another unique character study, this time focusing on Paul Raymond, real estate magnate and purveyor of, ahem, "adult" entertainment. Look of Love starts in the late fifties and wends its way through the both decades and venues that include men's clubs, bawdy legitimate theater, and the magazine industry to tell the tale of a man making himself the center of a sexual revolution, even as the relationships with his wife (Anna Friel), lover (Tamsin Egerton) and daughter (Imogen Poots) deteriorate. I got a chance to speak with Winterbottom about reviving Raymond's world for the screen, and empowering Steve Coogan to bring the man to life. Rex Reed: Breakfast at Tiffany's: A Dog's Dinner
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
Quit stalling around and let's cut to the chase. No Audrey Hepburn, no Holly Golightly. The proof lies there on the stage of the Cort Theatre, choking on flat, leftover, room-temperature champagne from an old party that goes down like cough syrup, in a misguided and charmless attempt to resuscitate Truman Capote's magical 1958 literary sensation Breakfast at Tiffany's that fails on every level. How many ways can you spell d-i-s-a-s-t-e-r ? Poor Truman. His bubbly little allegory about a deluded runaway hillbilly named Lula Mae Barnes from Tulip, Texas who invests considerable time, energy and other people's money re-inventing herself by making New York her oyster has never worked anywhere outside the exclusive splendor of the author's own extravagant literary imagination. An aborted TV pilot with Stephanie Powers failed, as well as an earlier production in London with Anna Friel by the current director, Sean Mathias, and we won't go into what Edward Albee did to the musica ...

Anna Friel Took Our Advice...And She Looks Great
Huffington Post - over 4 years
WHO: English actress, Anna Friel WHAT: The British babe was seen leaving the Vaudeville Theatre after performing in the play "Uncle Vanya" earlier this week. Miss Friel looked fashion-forward in a pair of printed black pants (a great alternative to plain jeans) and a cheeky novelty sweater (one we suggested, thank you very much). The combination of the trendy top and the of-the-moment pants could have been too much had she not played it safe with her accessories. The hip mama opted for a sparkly clutch and a pair of black booties (both are timeless pieces) and a floppy hat that didn't distract from her busy look. This lady certainly knows how to mix trendy pieces with classics. WHERE: The "Pushing Daisies" star was seen in London on November 6th. Casting Aspersions: Michôd, Friel & Winterbottom
SBS - almost 5 years
David Michôd stays local, while Anna Friel and Michael Winterbottom embrace a porn king. When Animal Kingdom came out in June 2010 and the acclaim was building not only at home but also abroad for David Michôd’s remarkable crime drama, the writer/director underwent full Hollywood immersion: he took the industry meetings, experienced talent dinners in Los Angeles, and tried to figure out what was legit and what was smoke. Afterwards he told me, “[Studios] need to make movies and they need those movies to make money, but the people running the studios want the movies made by good filmmakers. They’ll try it on.” Try it on they did, but Michôd (pictured) ultimately wasn’t buying. After a long period of silence, which may have stoked the fears of some that he would end up directing something like a film about terrorists taking over the White House or a comic book adaptation, Michôd has announced that he’ll be staying close to home. His next feature, The Rover, will shoot in Australia lat ...

Virgin Atlantic tip-off allegations put workings of media back in spotlight
Guardian (UK) - almost 5 years
Leveson inquiry urged to examine secret trade in private information that fuels the paparazzi They are the secret tip-offs at the heart of the paparazzi. Far from the heavily trailed showbiz parties and red-carpet events, the lifeline of most celebrity snappers is a confidential network of sources privy to the movements of the latest tabloid fodder. From its alleged secret source inside Virgin Atlantic, the London-based paparazzi agency Big Pictures was apparently treated to the planned travel movements of everyone from British royalty to global pop stars including Madonna, Rihanna and Debbie Harry. In a string of informal emails sent last year, and seen by the Guardian, Big Pictures appears to have been supplied with information about the precise Virgin Atlantic flight details of around 70 top celebrities. The scale of the alleged breach of privacy, apparently including travel plans for Princess Beatrice last year, will throw the spotlight back on to the alleged illicit trade of ...
