(Reuters) - Swede Anna Nordqvist became the oldest winner on the youthful LPGA Tour this year when she successfully defended her title at the ShopRite LPGA Classic in New Jersey on Sunday. Nordqvist, who started the final round two strokes behind overnight leader Karine Icher of France, stormed to victory with a brilliant seven-under-par 64 in strong winds at the Stockton Seaview Golf Club in Galloway. Nordqvist finished at 17-under-par 196, one stroke ahead of Japan's Haru Nomura (66).

(Reuters) - Defending champion Anna Nordqvist overcame a poor start with nine birdies in her last 12 holes for a seven-under-par 64 and a share of the first-round lead at the Shoprite LPGA Classic on Friday in New Jersey. Nordqvist bogeyed two of her first three holes after starting out on a breezy morning by the shore but ran off four birdies in a row from her seventh hole, sandwiching two six-footers with a pair of one-foot tap-ins. Tied with the Swede were Japan's Ai Miyazato and South African Paula Reto, with Haru Nomura of Japan, Scottish veteran Catriona Matthew and American Casey Grice one shot back on 65.

(Reuters) - For a second time this year, Sweden's Anna Nordqvist will get the chance to defend an LPGA Tour title at the same venue when she tees off in Thursday's opening round of the Kia Classic in Carlsbad, California. Nordqvist is a four-times champion on the circuit but did not return as reigning champion to the sites where she claimed her first two wins, the 2009 McDonald's LPGA Championship and the 2009 LPGA Tour Championship. "It seems like in the past a lot of the courses I've won on, we moved away," Nordqvist told reporters while preparing for the final event LPGA event before next week's ANA Inspiration, the opening women's major of the year.

Kim Hyo-Joo, fired up after a bogey at the 10th, birdied five of her last eight holes to win the LPGA Founders Cup by three strokes from Stacy Lewis. "In the morning, I wasn't concentrating on winning because I was playing with Stacy Lewis and as a rookie, I just felt that by playing with her, I would learn a lot from her," Kim said. Sweden's Anna Nordqvist joined the group with a sparkling 64, American Austin Ernst and South Korea's Kim Sei-Young both posted 65s, while South Korean Choi Na-Yeon posted a 66 for 273. After a birdie at the second, Kim gave the stroke back with a bogey at the par-three fourth, but was one-under for the round with a two-stroke lead at the turn after a birdie at the ninth.

NAPLES (United States) (AFP) - Germany's Sandra Gal fired a three-under par 69 to stretch her lead in the LPGA's season-ending Titleholders to three strokes. Gal, who led by one shot going into the second round, on Friday had five birdies in her three-under effort at windy Tiburon Golf Club, and her 11-under total of 133 put her three strokes clear of South Korea's Yoo Sun-Young. Yoo posted her second straight 68 for 136, and was two strokes in front of Thailand's Pornanong Phatlum (68) and Americans Gerina Piller (67) and Cristie Kerr (69). South Korea's Park Hee-Young, Sweden's Anna Nordqvist and American Morgan Pressel were a further stroke back on 139 -- one stroke in front of a group of six that included world number one Park In-Bee as well as China's Feng Shanshan and US teen star Lexi Thompson.
