LATimes - 12 months
There's a poignant, powerful story lurking at the edges of "Jack of the Red Hearts" but, as is, the film proves a strained, implausible family drama. Jack (AnnaSophia Robb) is an orphaned, 18-year-old street chick with a plucky kid sister (Sophia Anne Caruso) and a tough probation officer (Tonye...

Cynthia Nixon Apparently Doesn't Know About 'The Carrie Diaries'
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Cynthia Nixon isn't aware of the "Sex and the City" prequel series "The Carrie Diaries." AnnaSophia Robb, the star of The CW prequel about a young Carrie Bradshaw, said she ran into Nixon, Miranda Hobbs to "SATC" fans, and struck up a conversation. "I was at the counter, and I went, 'Oh, hi, I'm on the "Carrie Diaries" show. I'm a big fan. It was just kind of one of those New York run-ins," Robb told Vanity Fair. Nixon hadn't seen the show, according to Robb. "No. She had no idea," Robb said. "Which is the best part." However, Robb has heard from "Sex" star Sarah Jessica Parker. SJP reached out to Robb when she got the part. Similarly, Kim Cattrall reached out to Lindsey Gort when the young actress got the part of Samantha Jones on Season 2 of "The Carrie Diaries." @LindseyGort So happy u're playing Fearless Sam! The key 2 her is her heart. She never judges those she loves. Have a blast! Kimx — Kim Cattrall (@KimCattrall) July 23, 2013

Our Dream 'Hey Arnold!' Cast In Real Life
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Nickelodeon nostalgia, anyone? From 1996 to 2004, kids got their kicks from Craig Bartlett's cartoon "Hey Arnold!" The show focused on the quietly cool fourth grader Arnold, his grandparents' city dwellings and Arnold's kooky classmates. "Hey Arnold!" covered a laundry list of adolescent issues -- relentless bullies, lovestruck crushes and a grueling search for adoptive parents. These relatable storylines struck a chord with audiences and cemented the show's cult status so much that a feature film, "Hey Arnold! The Movie," was released in June 2002. Sure, 20-somethings can catch their favorite football head as part of "The '90s Are All That" TeenNick lineup. But what if we took the show's influence a step further? In the spirit of a fellow forever missed "funnie" Nicktoon, we dreamed up the ultimate Hollywood cast to portray the P.S. 118 gang. 1. Arnold: Disney Channel veteran Sterling Knight is our pick for Arnold. Thanks to his roles in "Sonny With a Chance" and "17 Agai ...

Will 'The Carrie Diaries' Finally Get Its Stanford Blatch?
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Has "The Carrie Diaries" found its Stanford Blatch? Not yet, but it looks like Carrie Bradshaw's (AnnaSophia Robb) BFF could be making an appearance in the CW series' second season. "The Carrie Diaries" creator Amy B. Harris says Stanford is on his way. "We teased Stanford at the end of the year [and] we decided to explain his not-coming-in [to the show] right off the bat because we really wanted Samantha's entrance to be her own," Harris told The Hollywood Reporter of Samantha Jones, who will be played by Lindsay Gort in Season 2. "But I think he could very well come in this season." Last month, the CW series added Kim Cattrall lookalike Gort to play the older, more sophisticated New Yorker to Robb's aspiring New Yorker (but really, Connecticut commuter) Carrie Bradshaw. According to "Carrie Diaries" producers, Carrie will meet Samantha through a "surprising connection" and the young Samantha Jones is described as "a ballsy, beautiful and sexy young woman fr ...

Why We Can't Quit Carrie Bradshaw
Huffington Post - over 3 years
HBO's "Sex And The City" came to its dramatic end in 2004 with protagonist Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) wearing a beautiful dress in Paris and having the notoriously emotionally unavailable, high-rolling Mr. Big (Chris Noth) tell her she was "the one." Nearly a decade later, New York is less about Manolo Blahniks and Manhattan and more about Hannah Horvath's jumpers and Brooklyn. And Carrie has become a character people love to scoff at, whether it's for her absurdly unrealistic spending habits or the destructive way she approached her love life. Or perhaps, as Emily Nussbaum points out in her New Yorker essay "How 'Sex And The City' Lost Its Good Name," the biggest bone we have to pick with Carrie is how frighteningly imperfect she was before imperfect became cool, in the form of "Girls'" Hannah and "Homeland's" Carrie Mathison. "Carrie and her friends -- Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte -- were ... jagged, aggressive, and sometimes frightening figures, li ...

Lindsey Gort: See Her as a Young Samantha Jones in The Carrie Diaries
US Magazine - over 3 years
Lindsey Gort has been cast as Samantha Jones in The CW's The Carrie Diaries, a prequel to HBO's Sex and the City. The original series ran for six seasons from 1998 to 2004 and spawned two box office hits. The role of Samantha Jones was made famous by Kim Cattrall, who played the man-eating publicist so well she earned a Golden Globe Award in 2003. PHOTOS: Sex and the City's best fashion moments of all time "In another nerve-wracking search to create the amazing characters we all came to know and love on Sex and the City, we went out in search this year for a young Samantha Jones," The Carrie Diaries' executive producer Amy B. Harris says in a statement. "Lindsey Gort walked into the room and owned the part. Funny and sexy with a whiff of vulnerability and an amazing dash of outrageousness, Lindsey is our exciting choice to play the young Samantha Jones." What It Looks Like When Steve Carell Acts Like A Jerk
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
"The Way, Way Back" is significant for two reasons. The first is that the film, the directorial debut of Oscar-winning screenwriters Nat Faxon and Jim Rash ("The Descendants"), was sold for $10 million at this year's Sundance Film Festival, the high-water mark for 2013 acquisitions in Park City, Utah. The second is that beyond being a "Little Miss Sunshine" reunion -- Steve Carell and Toni Collette co-star -- it features a performance from Carell that could only be described as "jerky." Considering Carell is Hollywood's Mr. Nice Guy, that's significant. So, too, is the film's cast: joining Carell and Collette are Faxon ("Ben and Kate," R.I.P.), Rash ("Community"), Allison Janney, Maya Rudolph, Rob Corddry, AnnaSophia Robb, Liam James and Sam Rockwell. Watch the "Way, Way Back" trailer above. The film's plot synopsis, courtesy of Apple: THE WAY, WAY BACK is the funny and poignant coming-of-age story of 14-year-old Duncan's (Liam James) summer vacation with his mother, ...

AnnaSophia Robb Talks Austin Butler And 'The Carrie Diaries' (PHOTOS)
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
From her unique fashion obsession to gallivanting around New York City on school nights, Carrie Bradshaw on The CW's new series, "The Carrie Diaries," is as glamorous as any '80s teenager could be. Though her character sometimes lives in a young fashionista's fantasy, AnnaSophia Robb -- the actress who stars as Carrie -- is actually a normal, super laid-back 19-year-old. (Though maybe with a better closet.) In a cover interview with Seventeen magazine, the teen actress opened up about her high school days, why she isn't headed off to college just yet and what it's like to work on the set of "The Carrie Diaries" with co-star Austin Butler. Scroll down for photos from AnnaSophia's Seventeen photo shoot. Making the choice between going to college and working on "The Carrie Diaries" wasn't an easy one for AnnaSophia, but she ultimately chose to trust her instincts and defer admission from Stanford University. "I’m a spiritual person. So I prayed and thought about it a ...

'Carrie' Signs Off For Now
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
The "Carrie Diaries" finale is upon us (Monday, April 8 at 8 p.m. ET) and though adolescent Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) is the voice of the CW series, it's her best friend Walt Reynolds (Brendan Dooling) who's had fans on the edge of their seats. While "Sex & The City" fans loved Stanford Blatch (Willie Garson) and Anthony Marentino (Mario Cantone), Walt isn't exactly "one of the girls" in the same vein. After all, "The Carrie Diaries" is set in the '80s and the high school senior's struggle with his sexuality is different than the ones teens usually see today, like Kurt Hummel on "Glee" or Emily Fields on "Pretty Little Liars." Below, Dooling opens up about where we leave Walt in the "Carrie Diaries" finale, the possibility of seeing him in a relationship, the role he originally auditioned for on "The Carrie Diaries," and much more. You originally auditioned for the role of Sebastian, right? How'd you feel about getting the callback for Walt? I did indeed. ...

Rebecca Shapiro: Like A Virgin?
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
Note: Do not read on if you have not yet seen Season 1, Episode 12 of The CW's "The Carrie Diaries," titled "There's A First Time For Everything." In the Madonna-themed episode of "The Carrie Diaries," viewers finally heard Sebastian Kydd utter those three little words to Carrie Bradshaw: "I love you." Her response? "I want to have sex with you." In theory, I find it appropriately adorable that the girl who grows up to write a column called "Sex and the City" responds to her high school boyfriend saying he loves her by announcing her desire to have sex with him. However, I didn't really buy it in practice. Though it's clear that each episode takes Carrie one step closer to losing her virginity to Sebastian, I find it hard to believe that AnnaSophia Robb's Carrie would respond with anything other than, "I love you too." But we're one episode away from the finale and "Like A Virgin" is playing in the background, so let's just speed this whole storyline up a bit. Th ...
