Crescent Enterprises CEO Badr Jafar Issues Warning On 'A Time Bomb On The Verge Of Exploding'
Huffington Post - about 3 years
During an interview with HuffPost Live at Davos on Saturday, Badr Jafar, the CEO of Crescent Enterprises, shared what he thinks is a big threat to development and growth in the Middle East. Jafar said he's concerned about a lack of corporate governance in the Middle East, saying the problem is "a time bomb on the verge of exploding in our region." "We don't have today the corporate governance structures to protect that value," Jafar said. Jafar also said youth unemployment is "a major issue" for the region. "The rates of youth unemployment in the Middle East are far higher than any other region in the world," Jafar said. "Solutions at that scale are not yet there and not being implemented," he added. Jafar said it's not just about salaries and job titles, it's also about productive jobs "where people are actively engaged" in society. Watch Jafar's interview above, and see more from Davos below:

Badr Jafar: Setting the Tone for Transparency
Huffington Post - over 3 years
The World Bank estimates that illicit financial flows including corruption, bribery, and theft causes annual global losses of over $1.25 trillion U.S. Dollars every year. This phenomenon is not one that separates developed markets from frontier or developing markets; there are indeed considerable differences even amongst the world's most established markets. For example, during the 2012 Presidential campaign, regulations in the United States allowed both individuals and companies to participate i ...

Badr Jafar: Climate Change Conundrum
Huffington Post - over 3 years
The need to address climate change and reduce global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is one of the most prominent international policy issues of the last two decades. Governments around the world have legislated in an attempt to address this challenge, and many of these legislative measures have come at a huge cost. And yet global GHG emissions, particularly carbon dioxide emissions, have continued to rise at a rapid pace, increasing by c. 32 percent between 1990 and 2010 according to UNEP. This is despite a globally agreed challenge to reduce emissions by 40 percent by 2050 from 1990 levels as part of the UN Climate Change Convention. Even some countries that are the most active pursuers of lower emissions have lost the gains of recent years, as flaws in their current energy policies emerge. Flawed Policies Existing government energy and emissions policies are often based on misconceptions that lead to ineffective or even counterproductive outcomes. The contradictions ...
