ObamaCare for Small Businesses: To Do, or Not – and at What Cost?
Fox Business News - over 3 years
Some small business owners are crunching the math on whether it makes the most sense to continue offering health insurance – or drop their coverage and pay the fine. While the employer mandate was delayed until 2015, many business owners say they need to figure out their game plan soon, given the high cost of health care. Case in point is New York City-based Newtek Business Services, with its 320 employees. The insurance bill rings in at nearly $2 million each year, says CEO Barry Sloane – with staffers contributing just a small percentage toward the overall cost. While Sloane says his first priority is making sure his employees don't suffer, he believes it will be more efficient for each individual employee to go out and purchase his or her own policy – not to mention less expensive for the company. "I think it's inappropriate for government or corporations to make decisions for individuals as to what benefits they should have," says Sloane.   For Newtek to drop insurance ...

‘Revenge’ Recap: Aiden Works With Victoria To Take Down Emily
Hollywood Life - over 3 years
Also, is Emily rethinking her revenge agenda? Say it ain’t so! Emily (Emily VanCamp) may have quickly pulled out the red Sharpie to take care of Ashley (Ashley Madekwe) on last week’s season premiere, but on the Oct. 6 episode of Revenge, she actually hesitated in taking down a new victim! She may be rethinking her revenge roller coaster of doom, but Aiden (Barry Sloane) and Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) are right on her heels! Looks like Aiden is infiltrating himself deeply onto Team Victoria because he was all about taking down Emily. Victoria was understandably confused about his sudden change of heart, but Aiden told her that Emily “betrayed me in a way you couldn’t imagine.” Aiden admitted he had worked with Emily and Nolan and dropped a hint about the connection between David Clarke and Emily. Victoria didn’t catch it, but she was still wary about Aiden’s intentions. If Aiden is actually playing Victoria, he is doing a great job. He legitimately sounds like he wants Emily to bur ...

Revenge Boss: We're Slowing Things Down This Season
Seattle Pi - over 3 years
After what many considered a disappointing sophomore season, Revenge's new showrunner is taking the show back to basics. [...] our goal this year is to really take a breath, slow it down and catch up with our characters where they are from where the season ended, executive producer Sunil Nayar tells TVGuide.com. Aidan (Barry Sloane) tells Emily (Emily VanCamp) he killed Takeda (Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa), Aidan and Daniel (Josh Bowman) scuffle, an explosion at Grayson Global kills Declan (Connor Paolo), Charlotte (Christa B. Allen) is preggers, newly named Governor Conrad (Henry Czerny) tells Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) there is no Initiative, Victoria's long-lost son Patrick (Justin Hartley) shows up at her door, Nolan (Gabriel Mann) is arrested for the New York blackout, and Emily tells Jack (Nick Wechsler) - in order to stop him from shooting Conrad - that she's the real Amanda Clarke. In typical Revenge fashion, Season 3 (which premieres Sunday at 9/8c on ABC), opens with a scene f ...

Idaho Businessman Urges Employers to Write Own ObamaCare Notice
Fox Business News - over 3 years
While the deadline draws near for many small-business owners to send out the ObamaCare employee-notification letter, an Idaho businessman urges employers to use his version of the letter—or write their own. The Department of Labor has required that any small business – whether it offers health benefits to employees or not -- with at least one employee and $500,000 in annual revenue must notify all workers by letter about the soon-to-launch health-insurance online marketplaces. The requirement applies to any business regulated by the Fair Labor Standards Act, regardless of size – so even employees at a local pizza parlor and/or food mart must receive the notice. After Oct. 1, any new hires must receive the letter within 14 days of their starting date, according to the DOL. The DOL has letter templates for employers on its site for those who offer insurance benefits and those who do not. Wayne Hoffman, president of free market think tank Idaho Freedom Foundation, says he decided to ...

Main Street Brings in $5.5B on Its Version of Black Friday
Fox Business News - about 4 years
Local retailers rang in $5.5 billion in sales on Small Business Saturday, which marked its third year last weekend and falls the day after Black Friday. American Express and the National Federation of Independent Business found the push to shop local accounted for nearly 10% of the$59.1 billion in total sales made over the holiday weekend, according to the National Retail Federation. Barry Sloane, CEO of Newtek, said his 15,000 small-business customers reported total processing volume up 4% at brick-and-mortar locations, and an increase of 10% in ecommerce sales for the day. Seeing such jumps, especially on the ecommerce side of the equation, is a testament to just how much the day has caught on among consumers in just three years, Sloane said. "In terms of notoriety, it's definitely caught on," he said. "Small Business Saturday is an American Express invention, and in the media all you hear about is shopping and supporting your local merchants. People realize you don't hav ...

Emily VanCamp’s New Night for Revenge Promo
Boom Tron - over 4 years
It would seem we’ve reached the point in Revenge’s lifespan when the only promotion it needs is a simple reminder that, in case you weren’t aware, Revenge is picking itself up and moving on to Sunday nights, making itself a part of that ever expanding must-see television night. Every show worth watching seems to air on Sunday nights these days. It’s a big night and ABC wants you to know of Revenge‘s move so you don’t accidentally miss it. Just to be safe though, you should probably watch the promo down below a few extra times, so the information really sinks in. It’s only 30 seconds, so it’s not like it’ll take a lot of your time. Aside from reminding us of its premiere on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 9/8c, all we really get here is a few quick clips from Revenge. It’s nothing really to go home about, but it could certainly whet the whistle of someone who has yet to watch the show. And certainly now is a good time to get invested in Revenge, with it only about to begin its second season. Wi ...

Crystal Reed’s Teen Wolf Dad Gets Revenge
Boom Tron - over 4 years
ABC’s Revenge keeps loading up for its sophomore season, now adding some Teen Wolf power with the addition of JR Bourne, who plays Crystal Reed’s father on the MTV supernatural drama. According to Deadline Bourne is Hamptons bound as Kenny, and described as a confident guy with some less than savory qualities that wealth allows him to play off. Bourne has had a ton of one-off stints on several shows (CSI, Fringe, Smallville, Suits) but if Teen Wolf isn’t exactly hitting your demographic, and science fiction is more your thing, you might have caught JR on Stargate SG-1 as Martouf (I’ve been going through SG-1 after really loving Universe and really liking Atlantis but finding the OG series to be tough to get through), one of those super annoying  Tok’ra. He will also be returning for season 3 of Teen Wolf (which will have as many episodes as each of first two seasons). Back to Revenge though, Emily VanCamp has been front and center in most of the build-up for the second season, perf ...

Revenge Season 2 – Mystery Man for Emily VanCamp
Boom Tron - over 4 years
What could be more fun than adding mysterious characters from your past in an intense drama such as Revenge? When you have such a convoluted, soap opera-like story, with twists and turns and faked deaths and pregnancies and engagements, bringing in a new character and claiming he has ties to someone’s past is as easy and as expected as saying hello to a friend you’re meeting for coffee. Yet Revenge has never been afraid of what it is, throwing these typical tropes of dramatic television with enviable confidence, knowing full well how hungrily its audience will eat it up. And as for this mysterious character, he’s going to be played by a hunky British man. If that’s not a typical – but oh so welcome – part of soap operas then I don’t know what is. According to TVLine, Barry Sloane was tapped to play Ethan, a man seemingly from Emily Thorne’s past, but my question is does Emily know whom he is? When he surfaces, will Emily be wondering what the heck he’s doing back in her life, or wi ...
