CML round-up: Thoresby drop vital points
Dispatch - almost 2 years
Thoresby Colliery dropped points in their Central Midlands League Black Dragon Badges North Division title chase, visitors Easington United claiming a 2-2 draw. Jamie Tryner supplied both of Thoresby’s goals, with Chris Frost getting a brace for the Eastenders. It’s hotting up at the top as leaders Clay Cross Town travelled to Askern and also dropped two points as they were held to a 2-2 draw. Aiden Ordidge put the Millers in front with just 70 seconds on the clock and Ritchie Matthews doubled the advantage on 20 minutes. Askern turned the tables in the second half, Matty Devine and Gareth Collinson scoring within a minute of each other. Two of the top four met at Station Road, and in a wind-affected game, Newark Town put Westella VIP under great pressure for most of the game, but had to wait until the last minute for Arron Martin’s goal which separated the sides and consolidated Newark’s second place in the table. Glapwell made it back to back victories as they saw off 10-men Br ...

Vivian Taylor: On UNC's Gender-Neutral Housing
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
I started college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill when I was 17. I lived on the first floor Lewis Hall for the next three years. Lewis was a perfect place to live in a lot of ways. It was a dorm with a very strong communal atmosphere. I made several lifelong friends there. I'm going to be a bridesmaid in one of those friend's weddings later this month. But still, there were issues. As a queer teenager suddenly thrown into an environment where I was in the company of a crowd of predominately straight men, nearly constantly, it was hard to relax, hard to start to explore what it meant to be a queer adult. Not many people on my hall knew I was trans. It was awkward. It was a very friendly place in great number of ways, but it was not a place with a lot of understanding or curiosity about gender and sexuality outside of a heterosexual, cisgender model. My second year in Lewis, one of my dorm mates started "jokingly" telling me that he was in love with me. ...

PG's Roach, Colorado's Olaru win Big Sur Marathon
Santa Cruz Sentinel - almost 5 years
BIG SUR -- Make it three in a row for locals at the 27th annual Big Sur International Marathon. In a comeback fueled by some strategic planning, Adam Roach of Pacific Grove on Sunday became the third straight Monterey County resident to win the race, finishing the 26.2-mile course with a time of two hours, 32 minutes and 25 seconds. Nuta Olaru easily won the women's title, overcoming abdominal pain to clock in at 2:50:08 -- nearly 20 minutes ahead of the field. In 2010, Daniel Tapia of Castroville became the first local man to win the marathon. Last year, King City's Jesus Campos followed Tapia into the winner's circle. "I knew I'd be competitive and it turned out well for me," said Roach, a 27-year-old who is originally from Michigan. "I owe it all to strategy." In his fourth marathon and Big Sur debut, Roach collected his first marathon victory, thanks to a plan that resulted in big pushes at opportune times. "It was all about saving energy for the downhills," said Roach, ...
