Watch: Interview with Miles Teller and Aaron Eckhart in "Bleed For This"
Huffington Post - 3 months
Miles Teller takes on his first official adult role as real-life boxer Vinnie Pazienza in the feature film Bleed for This. It marks a big step for the 29-year-old actor, who is best known for playing students and youths in films like Whiplash and The Spectacular Now. Bleed follows Vinnie, a world champion boxer who broke his neck in a near-fatal car accident and told he may never walk again. However, Vinnie defied the odds not only to walk, but to make a stunning boxing comeback. The film is directed by Ben Younger and also stars Aaron Eckhart as Vinnie's coach and Katey Sagal as Vinnie's mother. Denver Film Festival Preview: Welcome to the La La Land of Opportunity
Huffington Post - 4 months
Tracy and Hepburn. Bogie and Bergman. Fred and Ginger. Liz and Dick. Butch and Sundance. Thelma and Louise. Sebastian and Mia? Finding the rare perfect pair with the golden touch on the silver screen -- in the guise of a real-life sustainable couple, a one-off character study or two actors who continue to play it again -- can be either an exhilarating or exasperating experience. Just like watching a doubleheader or double feature, both always aren't a winning combination. Whether it involves BFFs or best frenemies, a dynamic duo or an old-fashioned romantic couple, there has to be a chemical attraction/reaction between the two lead actors to make us want to believe in them. The 39th Denver Film Festival gets off on the right foot in that department this week with its Red Carpet presentation of La La Land, a modern take on the Hollywood musical that pays homage to the City of Angels, matches made in movie heaven and anyone else who dares to dream another day. The Nov. ...

The Return Of Ben Affleck's Boiler Room Character?
Popeater - over 4 years
Ben Affleck's career is back on the upswing thanks to this weekend's well-reviewed new thriller "Argo." Affleck stars and directs the film, which tells the true story of six American foreign service workers trapped in Iran after the takeover of the American embassy in 1979, and how their escape was procured by, in part, a fake film known as "Argo." The film provides Affleck with the opportunity to play a character we've not quite seen him as before, much like the 2000 film "Boiler Room." Affleck played a small but memorable role in the financial drama, a shady brokerage firm recruiter who gives a series of inspirational monologues. (The performance drew comparisons with Alec Baldwin's monologue in "Glengarry Glen Ross.") In a bit of an addendum to Monday's full interview with Affleck, here he explains why his role in "Boiler Room" is a lot like what we'll see from him in his next film, "Runner, Runner." I think one of your most underrated performances was your role in " ...

Casting Aspersions: Scorsese, Villeneuve & Owen
SBS - almost 5 years
Martin Scorsese goes corporate, Denis Villeneuve sees double, and Clive Owen returns to crime. Martin Scorsese is returning to New York, albeit to a new neighbourhood. The revered filmmaker, whose last feature was the lavish 3D recreation of 1930s Paris for the children’s/cineastes fantasy Hugo, will take on the city’s financial hub. Scorsese will direct an adaptation, by Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire writer Terence Winter, of Jordan Belfort’s memoir The Wolf of Wall Street, where the former stockbroker recounts the stock manipulation tactics he used to make (and spend) hundreds of millions of dollars in the 1990s, before his arrest and imprisonment in 1998. Hubris and excess on Wall Street is a popular topic, and Belfort’s disgraced brokerage firm, Stratton Oakmont, has already inspired one feature, Ben Younger’s 2000 drama Boiler Room. Scorsese (pictured), who reportedly starts shooting in August, will up the stakes by bringing in his current leading man, Leonardo DiCaprio. The Wo ...

    Age 22
In 1995, he attended an interview for a job in a brokerage firm, and immediately conceived the idea that went on to become his first film, Boiler Room.
More Details Hide Details He spent two years researching the underground telemarketing brokerage industry as background for his screenplay. Boiler Room was released in 2000. A corporate drama in the mold of Wall Street and Glengarry Glen Ross, with colorful dialogue that some critics compared to David Mamet, the film exposed the shady world of "chop shops" (underground brokerage firms), and starred Giovanni Ribisi, Vin Diesel, Nicky Katt, Jamie Kennedy, and Ben Affleck. Younger's second film, Prime (2005), is a romantic comedy about the relationship between a young Jewish man and an older gentile woman. The film stars Uma Thurman and Meryl Streep. The movie was prominently featured in the HBO show Unscripted because Bryan Greenberg, star of Unscripted was also the male lead in Prime. Younger appeared as himself in the episodes where the movie was featured. Younger's third film is an American biographical drama based on the life of former World Champion Boxer Vinny Pazienza. Younger both wrote and directed. The film stars Miles Teller, Katey Sagal, Amanda Clayton and Aaron Eckhart, and is executive produced by Martin Scorsese. The film is slated to be released this Fall.
Despite his success, Younger became disenchanted with politics, and by 1995 started to seek a creative outlet that would rekindle the excitement he felt as a stand-up comedian.
