Kobe Bryant's Response To A College Player Scoring 138 Points Is Priceless
Business Insider - over 4 years
Earlier this morning we posted a brief quote from Kobe Bryant about Jack Taylor, the Division III player who scored 138 points in a game last night. It was excellent (via Kevin Ding of the OC Register): "Really? That's crazy. He must've been wearing Mambas, because only Mambas have no conscience to shoot that much." Now we have the full transcript of what Kobe said from Lakers writer Dave McMenamin, and it's even better. The best bit: "Would people be celebrating me if I scored 138 points? You know how it is, some people would, some people wouldn't. They can all kiss my a-- as I'm sure he feels the same way. If you score 138 points, you kind of have a license to tell people to f--- off." Kobe has no filter this year. A timeline: During training camp he launched an unprovoked attack on former teammate Smush Parker, calling him, "the worst." During preseason, Dwight Howard made headlines by saying that doing the Gangnam Style dance was part of his rehab from a back injury ...

Green helps Spurs edge Lakers
Fox News - over 4 years

Danny Groner: Avery Johnson, Mike Brown, Bill Belichick and Building a Franchise
Huffington Post - over 4 years
For the past five days, NBA fans and commentators have been coming to terms with that fact that Lakers fired their coach Mike Brown after just five games. Brown, many argued, didn't have enough time to build chemistry among his players, and was run out-of-town after a failed experiment with the Princeton offense. It seems that if you have so many stars on your roster there's an assumption that things should gel faster. Or, more simply, if you coach in L.A. you have a shorter timeframe at play in which to prove yourself. Since the Lakers have gone in another direction -- they hired Mike D'Antoni to join the team later this month --the players have responded well rattling off two consecutive wins under their interim coach Bernie Bickerstaff. Maybe the problem really did rest in Brown and his offense; maybe it was the players' motivation; or maybe it just took a couple more games that management was willing to offer for the players to get to business. As much as we like to ...

Return Of Phil?
Huffington Post - over 4 years
All signs (and hashtags) are pointing to Phil. According to various reports, the 11-time NBA champion coach is close to returning to the Los Angeles Lakers shortly after the firing of Mike Brown. Ric Bucher of CSNBayArea.com reported on Friday evening that one source informed him there is a "strong" possibility of Jackson returning to his former team, as long as executive VP Jim Buss gives him "the organizational reins." The possibility seemed stronger on Saturday when the Los Angeles Times reported that the Lakers and Jackson planned on meeting that morning. Although he did refer to the Zen Master as the leading candidate for the gig, Ken Berger of CBS Sports tweeted that there are some obstacles before an agreement can be reached. Whether or not these reports and reported meetings ever bring him back to the Staples Center, Jackson seems to have the inside track on the coaching vacancy at this point. It can't hurt that Magic Johnson wants him back, per Ch ...
