Trump's Inauguration, the Musicians and the Boycott Question
Huffington Post - 2 months
Does it make sense to boycott musicians? There are, after all, many forms of boycotts. When I was young I really enjoyed the music of Phil Collins. I really loved listening to his songs, which were played often on my favorite radio stations. One day, however, my mother declared that we would no longer listen to any Phil Collins music because he was an ardent supporter of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and was a virulently anti-Israel. I remember feeling confused as I respected my mother for taking a stand, but I also didn't see the harm in listening to a Genesis song on the radio. It wasn't like I was supporting him by buying his cassette tape (it was the early 1980s) or buying his concert tickets. Nevertheless, for many years thereafter I refrained from listening to Phil Collins music even if such a boycott didn't make sense. These days, there is still a lot of discussion when it comes to boycotting certain musicians. The most common example is Roger Waters of Pink Fl ...

The swag, mojo, power and glory of Mike Gundy's mullet
ABC News - 3 months
STILLWATER, Okla. -- Over the summer, Mike Gundy's youngest son noticed that his dad's hair had grown a little long at the back. Gage joked how funny it would be if his dad let his hair grow the way it flowed in college. Gage didn't realize what he had started. Soon he'd learn he wouldn't be able to stop it. "I said to him, 'If you keep bothering me, I'm not going to cut it.'" Mike Gundy said. "Now I'm kind of enjoying it." This season, Oklahoma State's country-hearted coach has turned the joke on his three sons, keeping the biggest, baddest hairstyle in all of college football. The Gundy Mullet has galvanized his team and garnered approval from mullet royalty in the form of country music star Billy Ray Cyrus, who told ESPN.com that he'll be pulling for the Cowboys this weekend in Bedlam as a result. "Coach Gundy rockin' the mullet? Yeah, shows class -- and brass!" said Cyrus, who once wrote homage to mullets. "More importantly, he's a...

Country Royalty Nothing But Style at the CMA's
Huffington Post - 4 months
The CMA Awards are, without a doubt, one of my favorites on the list of award shows. It's so much fun to see what the female country stars are rocking as well as the male country artist. How can anyone get tired of cowboy hats and what they represent? I relate to all the country styles in a weird kind of way. When it comes to tradition, we in beauty have staple styles like the bob, while our fellow country music folks have the cowboy hat. I love the pomp and circumstance that encompass the country look and how the country philosophy represents a unique piece of American history and culture. I absolutely adore how bling is a permanent accessory which they manage to mix flawlessly with everything from updos and to casual braids to ponytails. Who would have thought? Now let's talk about the superstars. Hello, Garth Brooks, Jason Aldean and Billy Ray Cyrus! Ya'll looked terrific on the red carpet with your cowboy hats, blazers and boots. Many other joined the festivities with thei ...

Carrie Underwood And Brad Paisley Call Out The Election That Never Seems To End At CMAs
Huffington Post - 4 months
It’s hard to believe the election is less than a week away, especially when Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley remind us just how long this presidential process has been.   During their opening monologue at the 50th annual CMA Awards on Wednesday, the show’s hosts poked fun at certain moments from the last few weeks of debates, singing a little jingle calling out the election for “taking forever ... and ever.” They crooned: “The race is on, it’s on every single channel and it’s making my head spin. We’re so freakin’ sick of politics, we don’t even care who wins. Hey, won’t it be refreshing instead of the election to watch us all singing up here? Can you believe a bunch of hillbilly singers been doing this for 50 years?”  The pair, who have been hosting the CMAs for nine consecutive years, brought on more laughs when they did a segment on the nominees for Entertainer of the Year. Paisley, imitating Trump during the debates, hovered over his sidekick and dubbed her “cr ...

Ryan Reynolds' Birthday Tweet For Wife Blake Lively Will Make You Giggle
Huffington Post - 6 months
Aug. 25 is the day the Earth was blessed with the goddess Blake Lively, the multifaceted actress who defined friendship, couple, motherhood and hair goals for a generation. It is also Billy Ray Cyrus’ birthday.  We can imagine how sharing a birthday with Lively must suck. Most years, Cyrus’ birthday is probably overlooked by the youth in favor of celebrating Lively’s, except for those among us whose great aunt could never let us watch “Hannah Montana” without telling us how “that dad is the ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ singer!” But not this year, for Lively’s husband Ryan Reynolds is finally giving Cyrus the birthday attention he deserves.  Just want to wish Billy Ray Cyrus the most special, magical birthday ever. Huffington Post - 11 months
Billy Ray Cyrus has joined his daughter, Miley Cyrus, in expressing his own distaste for the anti-LGBT laws that have been passed in North Carolina, Mississippi and, more recently, Tennessee.   The 54-year-old country crooner mentioned Miley, as well as rocker Bryan Adams, for "taking a stand" on the controversial new laws that harbor discriminatory practices against the LGBT community in a post on his official Facebook page Monday. Adams had also announced Monday that he was canceling his April 14 performance at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi in the wake of the state's "Religious Liberty” bill.  Billy Ray Cyrus wrote the following on Facebook:  Billy Ray Cyrus's statement comes just days after Miley Cyrus offered similar sentiments on both her Instagram and Twitter.
