The Big Sick is a hilarious, tearjerking rom-com starring Kumail Nanjiani
Yahoo News - 29 days
Kumail Nanjiani is arguably best known for his role as Dinesh Chugtai on HBO’s Silicon Valley, but I suspect regular readers of The Verge — folks fascinated with technology and the culture that unspools around it — probably know his work on Adventure Time, Bob’s Burgers, The X-Files, and The Indoor Kids. The Big Sick is the pair's first foray into co-writing a screenplay, and in an unintentional way, a prequel to their podcast. It’s a romantic comedy about how Nanjiani and Gordon met, started dating, and overcame a life threatening illness.

Wealthier People Watch 'Parks & Rec,' 'Modern Family'
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Rich people love "Parks and Recreation." According to TheWrap, the median household income of the "Parks and Rec" audience member in the 18-49 demographic is $81,000. It's just $100 below the average income of the "Modern Family" viewer. TheWrap culled its data from Nielsen to compare broadcast viewers' incomes. Other shows toward the top of the pay scale include "The Good Wife," "The Amazing Race" and "Nashville." Los Angeles Times reports "Parks" has the highest percentage of upscale youth viewers. At the opposite end of the spectrum are Fox's animated comedies. The average income for the "Bob's Burgers" audience member is $48,800. "American Dad" follows at $49,100 and "Family Guy" at $53,400. Other shows at this end of the scale include "The Simpsons" and "America's Funniest Home Videos." “It’s not too surprising that higher income viewers are more likely to watch programs that are critically acclaimed and contenders for industry awards like the Golden Globes and Emmys,” Brad ...

“Bob’s Burgers” is the most sex-positive show on TV - over 3 years
If you’ve never seen "Bob’s Burgers," the particulars alone might keep you from tuning in when its fourth season begins on Aug. 25. It’s an animated show on Fox, for starters, sandwiched between banality ("Family Guy") and toothlessness ("The Simpsons"), and the notion of a half-hour comedy based on the antics of a nuclear family is far from cutting edge. There’s a short-tempered but harmless father — check — a loving and indulgent mother — check — and three kids, one of whom is endearingly simple, one who mostly plays the straight man, and one whose manic and precocious energy precipitates many an adventure. (Check, check, check.) The show is ostensibly about the Belcher family’s struggles to raise their children while running a business that turns a slim profit. But underneath the unremarkable exterior beats one of the most fiercely liberal hearts steering any show on television today. "Bob’s Burgers" is a Trojan horse full of sexual progressivism and radical acceptance for trans pro ...

Is 'The Cleveland Show' Cancelled? And 'Family Guy' Boston Episode Pulled
Buddy TV - almost 4 years
If you're a fan of FOX's Sunday night animation lineup, things aren't looking so good for one of those shows. It's being reported that The Cleveland Show has been cancelled. This doesn't come as a surprise considering the ratings have not been very strong lately, averaging 3.3 million viewers. Another sign that the Family Guy spin-off is about make its exit is that FOX has already renewed the rest of its animated shows: The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad and Bob's Burgers. Due to the amount of time it takes to produce these shows, early renewals are critical to making sure the producers, writers and everyone else involved can start on time before the next season is set to begin.

TV: TV Club: Bob’s Burgers, “Moody Foodie”
A.V. Club - almost 5 years
The relationship between a critic and the object of his or her criticism isn’t a simple one. If the critic, like me, is reviewing something (like a TV show!) over a consistent period of time, it creates an odd relationship where you start to want the show to succeed. It’s partially because a good critic will try and find the good in what he or she is criticizing, but it’s also because a critic who has to deal with a show regularly will want that show to be good for selfish reasons. There may never be any evidence that the critic/show relationship is a dialogue, but it can often feel like one. On the other hand, a critic who shows up to judge something once or twice has less reason to look for the best and encourage improvement. Now, don’t get me wrong, it can ... Read more
