A Brief (Pun Intended) History of Lawyers in Movies, Part II
Huffington Post - almost 2 years
Lawyers in motion pictures have been portrayed as one of two extremes, devils or angels, almost since celluloid was invented. The first film dealing specifically with a law firm and attorneys, 1933's Counsellor at Law, starring John Barrymore, portrayed its J.D.s as upstanding citizens, as did the early Perry Mason films of the same period. This quickly changed, however, with many attorneys portrayed as being capable of the same brand of skullduggery as their shifty clients. With that in mind, we bring you a list of the good, the bad and the ugly of lawyers in movies. Enjoy, and please refrain from suing us if you feel otherwise... 1. Devil's Advocate (1997) Keanu Reeves plays Kevin Lomax, a hot-shot young Florida lawyer who is all about climbing the ladder. When he gets an offer he can't refuse from a high-powered New York firm, led by the legendary John Milton (Al Pacino). Soon Kevin's wife (Charlize Theron) is plagued by demonic visions and he realizes he's literally so ...

'Parenthood' Sneak Peek: 'Let's Be Mad Together' Sees Sarah Helping Out Her Hot Neighbor (EXCLUSIVE VIDEO)
Huffington Post - over 3 years
In this week's "Parenthood" (Thurs., Oct. 24 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC), Sarah (Lauren Graham) demonstrates her plumbing prowess when her hot neighbor, Carl (Josh Stamberg), needs help in his bathroom. But in typical Braverman fashion, her attempt doesn't go exactly as planned, as you can see in our exclusive sneak peek above. Elsewhere in the episode, titled "Let's Be Mad Together," Max’s (Max Burkholder) photography knows no bounds while Joel (Sam Jaeger) struggles for boundaries with Peet (Sonya Walger). Adam (Peter Krause) and Crosby (Dax Shepard) too must set boundaries with the band for the betterment of their new business. Meanwhile Julia (Erika Christensen) and Camille (Bonnie Bedelia) have something in common that does not make them happy. And Sarah talks toe-to-toe with Ryan (Matt Lauria) and Amber (Mae Whitman). Are you looking forward to Thursday's "Parenthood"? What's your favorite part of Season 5 so far?

Chris Kelly: Pitch Notes
Huffington Post - almost 4 years
I don't know what the agents told you, but this isn't a half-hour. I love half-hours, don't get me wrong, and people are doing great things. Especially (name show on network). Amazing. But what I really want to do is the kind of dark, edgy, noisy, sexy kind of long-form, serialized, character-driven story telling you can only do in hours. You know? The kind of thing where an actress who's not in movies anymore gets to play the living shit out of a judge/profiler/bail-bondsman/senator/school principal/nun who's also a drug addict/alcoholic/nymphomaniac/cutter who speaks in tongues. And I have this idea I love. It's totally getable but it's also sort of... out there. That's why I thought of you guys first. I shouldn't say this, but this is something I could only do here on HBO (Showtime/FX/Starz/AMC/Netflix/Disney XD). Here's the set up: Our main character is a woman cop. Divorced. Not a kid anymore. I'm thinking mid-forties. But if Debra Winger wanted to ...

Meet John McClane Jr.
Huffington Post - about 4 years
"A Good Day to Die Hard," the fifth film in the "Die Hard" franchise, is "kind of ageist tryptic." Those were the words of star Bruce Willis back in October of last year when we asked him about once again playing "Die Hard" hero cop John McClane. "How fast can I run? How well can I fight?" Willis rhetorically asked. "There's a story. If you look at all of them from the first film to the one we just did, you see me age over these films." He's right. Bruce Willis, now 57, isn't the youthful 32-year-old, yippee-ki-yay-yelling action star he was in 1988. (It should come as little surprise, however, that Willis' now-patented yippe-ki-yay taunt does appear in "A Good Day To Die Hard.") Perhaps this is why the newest "Die Hard" film introduces audiences to a brand new McClane -- John McClane Jr., played by Jai Courtney. You may know Courtney as the antagonist in this past December's Tom Cruise film "Jack Reacher." Or you may know him as Varro on the Starz series "Spartacus." No ...

Die Hard Quadrilogy – Blu-ray Review
HeyUGuys.co.uk - almost 5 years
If this long-overdue Blu-ray reissue hadn’t come about, this franchise would have thoroughly deserved a HeyUGuys Video Vault special anyway. With recent news of a fifth instalment (A Good Day To Die Hard) going ahead, it is an ideal time to re-evaluate the existing entries in this genre-defining series and see what a Blu-ray brush-up has done to them. Die Hard came towards the end of a decade that was characterised, at least within the action genre, by one-man-machine films. Rambo, Commando, Predator, Cobra, DTV entries from Dolph Lundgren and the burgeoning attempts of Seagal and Van Damme, all vied for our attention. Then along came Die Hard. Its director, John McTiernan, had already visited the genre to considerable success and acclaim with Arnie’s none-more-eighties Predator, but this was something else entirely. So familiar has the skyscraper-high concept become (one man, stuck with a load of terrorists, fighting for his life etc) that one can forget that this is where it bega ...
