BRACKET: Best Slam Dunk Contest Dunks Ever
Huffington Post Sports - about 4 years
“Bad artists copy. Good artists steal," -Pablo Picasso. Ever since Julius Erving soared through the thin Denver air in the final days of the ABA, the free throw line has frequently been a launching pad for competitors in the many NBA Slam Dunk Contest. Brent Barry and Serge Ibaka copied Erving's free throw line leap. Michael Jordan stole it. From the illuminated ABA-age manuscripts authored by Dr. J and David Thompson, the Slam Dunk Contest has evolved and flourished in distinct eras even as familiar moves have been recycled and reinvented. From the dunks' classical era in the 1980s, when masters like Michael Jordan and Dominque Wilkins authored iconic pieces to the renaissance of the contest led by Vince Carter and Jason Richardson in the early 2000s, the Dunk Contest has been filled with copies, theft and occasional moments of originality. As with art history, not all Dunk eras -- or free throw line dunks -- are created equal. The modern pop art of Dwight Howa ...

WATCH: Highlights From Dunk Contest Competitors
Huffington Post - about 4 years
The participants in the 2013 NBA Slam Dunk Contest are cleared for takeoff. Eric Bledsoe (Clippers), Kenneth Faried (Nuggets) and Jeremy Evans (Jazz) are representing the Western Conference while Gerald Green (Indiana), Terrence Ross (Toronto) and James White (Knicks) will be slamming on behalf of the East. Defending his 2012 crown, Evans joins Green (2007) as the two previous winners in the field. Although household names like LeBron James continue to shun the dunk contest (despite the urgings of other household names), the selection of White offers hope that fans will get a better show than last year when Matt Moore of CBSSports.com declared "the dunk contest is dead." Dubbed "the NBA's secret dunk hero" by Jared Zwerling of ESPN.com, "Flight" White has been renowned for his dunk prowess since his high school days (when he battled David Lee in the 2001 McDonald's High School dunk contest) but never found regular run in the NBA. Not only has he thrown down a two-hande ...
