Panama City Beach Escape: A Weekend of Jazz, Sugar Sands and Waffles
Huffington Post - about 3 years
When friends said: "Let's go to Panama City Beach," I must admit I was skeptical. The Northern Florida beach town was notorious for being the Capital of Spring Break ever since MTV started filming the wet T-shirt contests and drunken shenanigans that took over the town every March. What I didn't know was that a couple years ago Panama City Beach sent MTV packing and was working aggressively to change its image. PCB is, in fact, a perfect destination for more wholesome visitors: families with kids. The town offers enough waffle houses, miniature golf courses, dolphin water shows, dolphin cruises and affordable accommodations to make most families happy. In addition to the major hotel brands -- Days Inn, Hamptons Inn, Holiday Inn and Wyndham, with rates starting nicely under $100, depending on the season -- there are 16,000 condo rooms to rent, with kitchenettes to make your own waffles. Sports enthusiasts can stay busy with fishing, tennis, snorkeling, four different 18-hole golf ...

Huffington Post - over 3 years
ELLIE GOULDING'S CATCHING FIRE WITH HUNGER GAMES' "MIRROR" For those who just arrived on the planet, the next installment of The Hunger Games movie franchise is Catching Fire, and one of the pieces featured on its soundtrack album will be Ellie Goulding's "Mirror" that presents perhaps our first taste of the musical mood of the movie. Check out this exclusive audio track... For more info: http://smarturl.it/CatchingFireiT NOT YOUR FATHER'S SMOOTH JAZZ Probably most everyone reading this piece who hasn't been keeping up on such things believes that "smooth jazz" is still sonic wallpaper, you know, light music that would numb one into submission at work, a soundtrack for trips to the mall, background music for meals, et cetera. However, I felt a little differently about the subject, and since I interviewed many of this genre's artists over the last few years, I figured I'd check out what truly was going on firsthand via Entertainment Cruise Productions' recent Smooth Jazz Cruise ...

BRIAN IRVING'S "GARBAGE MAN" Brian Irving--aka Rawkus Records and UPROXX.COM co-founder Brian Brater--drops his debut album Radiant Things on July 16th. Brian, a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, synth and drum programmer, creates a lush atmosphere of conscious lyrics, and lo-fi/hi-fi computerized, neo-psychedelia with recent critical comparisons to Tame Impala, Pink Floyd, and Neon Indian. Check out this exclusive stream of his new song "Garbage Man" that features delayed guitar glitchiness, drum layers, and airy vocals and synths coupled with a clear environmental message about the dark side of our over-consumption. The song's opening lines, "Garbage Man, may your holy work be damned, Garbage Man, toxic waste is on your hands. What will you do, when the garbage starts eating you," shed light on the environmental and social consequences of our collective waste. Also enjoy Brian's recently released video for 'Eyes Wide'. 'Youth Day' Kicks Off At Essence Music Fest
Huffington Post - over 4 years
NEW ORLEANS -- The Essence Music Festival kicked off Thursday with events geared for the young. Organizers planned to hold talks at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center on crime, education and other issues affecting today's youth as a prelude to teen musical acts scheduled to hit the Superdome stage later in the evening. Essence is one of the premiere music festivals celebrating black culture and music. It's been held every Independence Day weekend since its inception in 1995, when it marked the 25th anniversary of Essence magazine. As in years past, the festival tackles themes of importance to African Americans, such as education and the upcoming presidential election. But above all, Essence is a celebration of music. Opening day was to be all about recognizing newcomers to the music scene, including the Disney Channel's Coco Jones, rapper Diggy Simmons, the OMG Girlz, Roshon Fegan, Katlyn Nichol, Square Off and New Orleans' own The Roots of Music. Stables boasts a whole lotta’ soul
Leighton Buzzard Observer - almost 5 years
THIS week sees a welcome combination of heartstrings and six-strings being plucked at The Stables in Wavendon, where a wealth of singer songwriters will be slinking into town to showcase their hits. Paul Brady, arguably the bet thing to come out of Ireland since Guinness, takes to the stage tonight crossing musical boundaries in a way that only he can. Paul’s live performances incorporate songs from his 40-year back catalogue, spanning the genres of folk, rock, blues, traditional Irish and classic pop in what promises to be an awe-inspiring set. Paul may well be a tough act to follow, but you wouldn’t bet against Wednesday’s act, Richard Digance, stepping up to the task with his raft of self-penned comic songs introduced with panache, style and outrageous humour. The evergreen performer has performed thousands of shows during his career, ranging from an audience of 8 in The Falklands to half a million at Knebworth Festival, so we can be sure of a rollicking show at what is rumoured ...
