JOHN DAY – Baseball fans braved the wind and rain to watch the Iron Triangle Pirates dominate their wood bat tournament last weekend.
High school teams from Madras, La Pine and Redmond competed in the tourney, held at the Seventh Street Complex on June 22-24.
When asked about the team’s success, Coach Kevin Feist said, “All of our pitchers threw well, we played solid defense and came up with key hits when we needed to.”
The Pirates, consisting of members from Burns and John Day, won all of their games. The team started on Friday with a 2-0 win against Madras, pitched by Jordan Ackerman. Ackerman, Dominic DeHaven, Lane Williams had one hit each, and Trey Thompson had two hits. DeHaven and Williams both scored runs.
Saturday morning, the Pirates defeated La Pine 4-0.
