Discussing The Wicker Man: Final Cut With Director Robin Hardy
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Update: While The Wicker Man: Final Cut tours the U.S. from Bellingham to Brookline (see link below), L.A. audiences are fortunate, as it's just been announced that this Friday night, the first of November, legendary actress Britt Ekland -- "The Landlord's Daughter" herself! -- will introduce the 7:30 screening at Landmark's fabulous Nuart Theatre, plus she's staying for a Q&A. If you miss this, you're crazy. Britt Ekland in The Wicker Man: Final Cut We now return you to the original opening paragraph. I get excited about movies, but rarely does a film astound me. Sinisterly exuberant, elegantly subversive, ravishingly eerie, hilariously chilling -- I just can't throw enough positive adjectival phrases at The Wicker Man: the 1973 masterpiece penned by Anthony Shaffer and magnificently directed by Robin Hardy. At the fore stands the world's greatest actor Christopher Lee, in one of his career peaks ("the best-scripted film I ever took part in," Mr. Lee says of The Wicker Man, i ...

JAMES BOND: 'Roger Moore Was Never Sexually Threatening'
Huffington Post - over 4 years
Britt Ekland is 20 years, minus a day, older than James Bond, it turns out. The Swedish star, still a dazzler on the eve of her 50th birthday, remembers very fondly her time as a Bond Girl in Man With The Golden Gun (1974), and especially her clinches with Bond of that era, Roger Moore. Britt Ekland with her James Bond of choice, Roger Moore Moore, as the joker Bond, sometimes gets sandwiched these days between the memorable charisma of Sean Connery and the suaveness of Pierce Brosnan (George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton have trouble being mentioned at all these days, by many, and the era of Daniel Craig gets attention all by itself), but Ekland is in no doubt as to what Roger Moore brought to the part... "He was gorgeous, he was tall, handsome, cheeky, sophisticated," she tells me at Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire, (the location for Goldfinger and Tomorrow Never Dies), where she is helping celebrate the superspy's 50th anniversary. "He was never threatening. Y ...

In June 1973 she had a son, Nic Adler, with record producer Lou Adler. More Details Hide Details Ekland was born Britt-Marie Eklund in Stockholm, Sweden to Maj Britt, a secretary, and Sven Axel Eklund, who ran an upscale clothing store in Stockholm and was captain of the Swedish national curling team. Ekland grew up with three younger brothers, and has said that she was overweight for much of her childhood: "I was very heavy. God, I was brutal-looking. I always tried to be funny to make up for the fact that I was fat and ugly." As a teenager, Ekland left school to travel with a theater company, and was spotted by a talent agent in a coffee shop while in Italy, who sent her to London to audition for films. Ekland began her career with bit parts and uncredited walk-on roles, including her first onscreen role in G.I. Blues (1960). This was followed with a small supporting part in The Happy Thieves (1960). She had small roles in the Swedish films Kort är sommaren (1962) and Det är hos mig han har varit (1963), before landing her first major supporting part in the George Marshall Western Advance to the Rear (1964).
