Gwyneth Paltrow Still Can't Believe People Hated Her More Than Chris Brown
Huffington Post - 8 months
Close your eyes and imagine Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Brown sit before you both perched on separate dunk tanks. It's your turn to throw. Who do you choose?  In 2013, Star sent a fastball whirling toward Paltrow's tank, saddling her with an award even Anne Hathaway didn't prepare a speech for: Most Hated Celebrity. (Side note: In our hearts, Chris Brown will hold this dishonor for life.) Paltrow herself admits she was taken aback by the label in a new interview with Stephen Sackur, host of BBC News' "Hard Talk," at the Cannes Lions.  "First of all I was like, 'I'm the most hated celebrity?'" she said, according to E! News. "More than, like, Chris Brown? What did I do?" Maybe Goop had become too, well, Goopy at that point. (How many diamond-encrusted truffle shavers does one need?!) Or maybe we were all too obsessed with Jennifer Lawrence to give a former American sweetheart any love.  "I see where you are coming from, but maybe you just make people feel bad sometimes,"  ...

Ken Howard On 'The White Shadow,' '30 Rock' & More For 'Isn't That ...?'
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Ken Howard did not set out to be an actor, but now he's the president of pretty much every working actor in the business. The Emmy winner for "Grey Gardens" and star of "The White Shadow" is president of SAG-AFTRA and has more than 100 film and TV credits to his name, including "In Her Shoes," "Crossing Jordan" and "The Net." Along with his film and TV work, Howard is a veteran stage actor and won a Tony in 1970. He's got a voice and a face that any casual TV or movie viewer will recognize, which makes him the perfect subject for The Huffington Post's feature, "Isn't That ... ?," designed to highlight those character actors you recognize from a variety of projects, but don't know much else about. When Howard was in school, he said he did the typical activities, but acting wasn't one of them. "Singing was always the thing -- I played some leads in musicals," he told The Huffington Post in a phone interview. "Then when I went to college I joined a singing group. I remember one of th ...

Hollywood's Biggest Stars Unite For A Great Cause
Huffington Post - over 4 years
LOS ANGELES — Cancer is big, but so are the celebrities determined to help conquer it. Michael Douglas, Matt Damon, Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sofia Vergara and Robert Pattinson were among dozens of stars who appeared Friday on the third Stand Up to Cancer telethon. "Let's build a world where cancer is no more," a somber Hanks said on the hour-long program that was carried commercial-free by the major broadcast networks and a number of cable channels. Some of the stars who participated had seen cancer sicken or claim a family member. Others had fought the disease themselves. "It picked a fight with the wrong guy," said Douglas, who had throat cancer. "Cancer didn't bring me to my knees, it brought me to my feet. I stand tonight because I want to be part of this effort to find an end to cancer. This is possible." The telethon included short films about people fighting the disease, including a 3-year-old boy, Justin, who distracts himself fr ...

Gwyneth Paltrow's Tasty New Role
Huffington Post - over 4 years
Gwyneth Paltrow may be one of Hollywood's go-to leading ladies, but she also makes a mean bruschetta. THR reports the "Country Strong" actress is currently in negotiations to star in the indie "Blood, Bones & Butter" -- based on Gabrielle Hamilton’s foodie memoir. The movie --which seems in some ways similar 2009's "Julie & Julia" -- will follow Hamilton’s peculiar road to becoming a chef. The successful foodie is the proud owner of Prune, a restaurant in New York City. Prune has been described as a destination for "unpretentious American home-cooking with eccentric, multicultural influences." Paltrow, whose own cookbook "My Father's Daughter" was released in the spring of last year, credits her love of cooking to her late father Bruce Paltrow. "He loved food, we loved to cook together," she told Epicurious. "We would watch the Food Network together when it was actually instructive and instructional. And we would always call each other when we ate somewhere ...

Blythe Danner loves her rock star son-in-law
Beleb Dirty Laundry - almost 5 years
She may play a grandmother in the new film, The Lucky One, but Blythe Danner has had plenty of practice. She’s the grandmother of two of the most famous tots in Hollywood AND London – Apple and Moses Martin. Gwyneth Paltrow’s mother is rarely too shy to gush over her grandchildren but in doing press for her new movie she shines the spotlight on her son-in-law of 9 years, Coldplay frontman, Chris Martin. “Oh, Chris is wonderful and he’s so good with their children,” she says, “and he’s taught them those good English manners.” But does Blythe love him enough to be a fan of his music? “Oh, yes, I am. I’m mostly a jazz fan and I’ve never really been into rock ’n’ roll music — although I guess Coldplay isn’t really rock ’n’ roll — but he’s made me a convert. I do go to their concerts whenever we’re in the same town and I don’t even have to wear earplugs any more, which I did in the beginning. He wrote the song Fix You for Gwyneth when her father died and I weep every time I hear i ...

Evan Shapiro: TV's 17 Best Issue-tainment Shows of All Time
Huffington Post - almost 5 years
On April 7, Mike Wallace, the lion of the TV news magazine died. Wallace was more than a news man. He was a former actor and game show host who found a way to seamlessly blend news and entertainment into a combination that was far more than a sum of its parts. Wallace -- first on Night Beat, then on 60 Minutes -- didn't just investigate or report. He turned interviewing into a blood sport -- becoming both one of the most liked and feared men on television as a result. He brought the same intensity and enthusiasm to every interview -- be it entertainers, world leaders or criminals -- even once calling Ayatollah Khomeini a lunatic, to his face. This got him into trouble at times -- settling a lawsuit with General Westmoreland; losing a battle with CBS over a tobacco industry whistleblower -- but it also made him something rare in the news business: a star. At 60 Minutes, Wallace (and producer Don Hewitt) accomplished a rare feat -- they made television that was equal parts ...
