It's Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong. We'll Stick with Yesterday.
Huffington Post - over 1 year
The warning signs appeared in the first five minutes of this film about two young expats who meet cute in Hong Kong's trendy Soho arrondissement. Chinese American girl from L.A. has no GPS on her phone (inconceivable for a millennial) and is attempting to meet up with some friends at a bar in nearby Lan Kwai Fong. Jewish guy from New York, who has lived in Hong Kong for 10 years, has just stepped out of a restaurant for a smoke. He gallantly offers to walk disoriented L.A. chick down to Lan Kwai Fong -- which, as many of us know, involves a brief ride down the famed Mid-Levels Escalator, a right on Hollywood Road, and a left down the steps to D'Aguilar. All told, about seven minutes. Instead, Josh takes Ruby on a gratuitous two-and-a-half kilometre hike over to Hong Kong Park, back across Garden Road, around Cheung Kong Centre, down to Queen's Road Central, then up the hill again to Lan Kwai Fong. Alarm bells go off in my mind -- and no doubt in the minds of many other viewe ...

Painter Tim Okamura Offers an Urban Narrative in Two Exhibitions
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Tim Okamura (photos provided) "As an artist who has worked with portraiture up to this point, I have been drawn to models I felt were compelling as subjects, who were interesting to me on an aesthetic and personal level, and that has generally been a diverse, multicultural group," said Brooklyn-based painter Tim Okamura. "I'm aware that this also happens to be a group that I believe has been under-represented in portraiture and figurative art on the whole -- to put it simply, these are faces that we need to see on gallery walls in the 21st century." A native of Edmonton, Canada, Okamura earned a B.F.A. with Distinction at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary, Canada before moving to New York City to attend the School of Visual Arts in 1991. After graduating with an M.F.A. in 1993, he permanently relocated to Brooklyn. This Week In Discs: Safe, The Five-Year Engagement, Piranha 3DD and More
Film School Rejects - over 4 years
Welcome back to This Week In Discs! As always, if you see something you like, click on the image to buy it. Quick A motorcycle courier finds himself targeted by police after a mysterious man forces him to deliver bombs to various addresses while an ex-girlfriend unlucky enough to have strapped an explosive helmet to her head comes along for the ride. This Korean effort takes the single plot thread of Speed and combines it with a lot of goofiness. The action runs the gamut of cartoony to thrilling, but it’s never less than entertaining. There’s also a little bit of heart to add more weight to the matter, but it’s never enough to extinguish the goofy fun. I’ll be honest… this is casual entertainment and a rental at best for most folks, but those of you as partial to Korean films as I am may want to pick it up too. Also available on DVD. Here is a sampling of star Tweets on the matter. Read through them and share your take with us now: Cory Monteith: guns don't kill people, people do etc.. but until we can fix society somehow you probably shouldn't be able to buy AR-15's at a fishing shop ... such a senseless tragedy. when are we going to reconsider the role of guns in society? how many more times does this have to happen? Susan Sarandon: The right to bear arms was referring to muskets. Maybe it's time to re-think our gun policy on this day of slaughter in Colorado. Piers Morgan: Lunatics l ...

Bryan Greenberg Talks Loudspeaker Tomfoolery On 'When I Was 17'
MTV News - over 5 years
You know him as the hunky star of "One Tree Hill" and "How to Make It in America"—but if you knew Bryan Greenberg in high school, you'd have known him as a class-clown-turned-persona-non-grata due to his prankish public announcements. (Aha! We knew that adorably smirky, quirky grin was hiding a past full of shenanigans.) And in this clip from Bryan's upcoming appearance on "When I Was 17" (airing Saturday at 11 a.m.) he reminisces about the time that a PSA went SNAFU. "I did the announcements for the high school," Bryan recalled. But for his teenage self, the usual notes about club meetings, ball games and bake sales just weren't fun enough to make the job worthwhile. And, he explained, "we quickly became bored of just reading the agenda and we would make up our own stuff." A sample of Bryan's off-the-cuff fakey announcements: "The procrastination club meeting has been postponed... again." Confession: We totally laughed. ...
