Anthony Papa: Michael Douglas Wants to Overhaul America's Legal System
Huffington Post - over 3 years
In a recent interview in Britain's Event Magazine, academy award winning actor Michael Douglas vowed to fight for a complete overhaul of America's legal system. This comes on the heels of his son Cameron losing his appeal which affirmed his nine and a half year sentence for drug charges. The story of Cameron Douglas is a sad one. Last April, the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld his conviction and refused to overturn it after he was caught with a small amount of drugs for personal use while in prison. Cameron is likely to stay in prison until the year 2018. In January of 2010, Southern District Court Judge Richard M. Berman sentenced Cameron to 60 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release. Cameron was facing a ten-year mandatory sentence but managed to knock off five years of the sentence by cooperating with the government. Cameron, a long time substance abuser, relapsed and began using drugs again while in prison. Instead of getting the trea ...

Michael Douglas' Embattled Son Fails Drug Test In Prison
Huffington Post - about 4 years
Cameron Douglas' problems continue to mount. Michael Douglas' embattled son, who is currently serving a nine-and-a-half year prison sentence for drug-related charges, was allegedly found with "drugs in his system" earlier this month. The New York Post, quoting a "prison insider," reported that the 34-year-old, who is serving his sentence at a federal prison in Pennsylvania, "failed a urinalysis" in the first week of January and was "immediately sent to solitary confinement." It is unclear as to whether Douglas will be slapped with more jail time for the violation. As RadarOnline notes, Douglas was sentenced to five years in prison for both possessing and selling drugs, including methamphetamine and heroin, in 2010. He was later given more jail time after he pleaded guilty to smuggling drugs into prison. He is not eligible for parole until 2018. Douglas -- who has reportedly "gone gangster" behind bars, beefing up physically and getting prison tattoos -- has been ...

WATCH: Catherine Zeta-Jones Opens Up About Her Bipolar Disorder
Huffington Post - over 4 years
Catherine Zeta-Jones stopped by "The View" on Friday, promoting her new movie "Rock of Ages," and opened up to the show's hosts about her bipolar disorder and her husband Michael Douglas' health issues. The 42-year-old actress said that after coping with the imprisonment of her stepson, Cameron Douglas, for selling methamphetamine, and her husband's battle with cancer, her bipolar disorder "just came straight out," and she admitted the past two years have been really rough on her. In April 2011, the actress underwent inpatient treatment for bipolar II disorder at a Connecticut mental health facility, which was brought on by extreme stress in her life. Zeta-Jones also mentioned that she is still embarrassed by her strange acceptance speech at the 2010 Tony Awards. When she won the Best Actress award for "A Little Night Music," she thanked Douglas by pointing at him and shouting, "See that man over there? He's a movie star and I get to sleep with him every night." ...

Cameron Douglas Gets Four and a Half More Years in Prison
The Hollywood Gossip - about 5 years
Cameron Douglas says he's learned his lesson, but it came at a heavy price. The 33-year-old son of Haywire star Michael Douglas was sentenced to five years in prison last April, after he was caught dealing large amounts of crystal meth. Wednesday, Cameron was sentenced to an additional four-and-a-half years in prison and a $4,000 fine. The offense, again, was drug possession, behind bars. The sentence was more than twice what prosecutors had asked for. The judge, obviously very annoyed at the situation, told Cameron that he had "blown the biggest opportunity of his life," according to The New York Post. Douglas said he was "saturated in my own shame and penitence" and begged for "the opportunity to build myself and gain the tools I need to shape my future." "I feel so strongly, for the first time in my life, that I am truly ripe for positive reform and real achievement," Cameron said in a Manhattan federal court f ...

Gossip Cop - about 5 years
( Cameron Douglas, son of Michael Douglas, was sentenced to four and a half more years in prison for possessing drugs while already jailed on other charges. A New York judge handed down the decision on Wednesday. The younger Douglas pleaded guilty to the new possession charges in October after being caught with heroin in his prison cell. There were also instances in which an attorney visiting Douglas behind bars allegedly smuggled drugs to him in her bra. “I don’t believe that I have had another case ever… of a defendant who has so recklessly, and flagrantly and wantonly, and criminally acted in as destructive and manipulative a fashion as Cameron Douglas,” announced Judge Richard Berman. Douglas will begin serving the new sentence only after completing his current five-year sentence for drug possession and dealing. That original punishment follo ...
