KAINE Walker has helped break a 20-year-old athletics record. The Lincolnshire Athletics Academy runner helped Nene Valley win the 4x400 relay at the Young Athletes’ League match in Peterborough. He ran his leg in 53 secs, helping beat a record set by the club in 1992, which was 3 mins 44.8 secs. Kaine also came second in the under 17s 400m and 100m hurdles. In the high jump, Tiago Torres, of Leverton, was first in the under 15s. Fellow LAA athlete Ashley Sandall was first in the under 15 800m and Rosie Marshall came third in the under 15 800m and fourth in the 200m. A fellow under 15, Sam Smith, came third in the 1,500m. It was his second best ever time in the event, clocking 4 mins, 50.3 secs. Ashley, Sam and Cameron Marshall also helped Nene Valley to relay wins. The youngsters all train at the Princess Royal Sports Arena, under Dr George Skafidas.
