John McClain’s 2015 Texans report card: Offensive line
Houston Chronicle - about 1 year
A good indication of how important the offensive line was to the Texans could be found in the team’s performance over the second half of the season. !function(D,id,s){ if(D.getElementById(id))return; s=D.createElement('script');s.id=id; s.src='//pollware-cdn.sodahead.com/pollware/pollware_890.js'; D.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(s); }(document,'sh-pollware-loader'); McCLAIN'S GRADE: C-plus HIGHS In a 19-9 victory over Tampa Bay, the Texans set season highs with 86 plays, 42 rushes and 186 yards rushing, including 139 by Alfred Blue. The Texans were 6-1 when they rushed for at least 100 yards. They were 5-3 in the eight games in which they surrendered only one sack. LOWS Being forced to use eight combinations of starters over the first half of the season because of injuries, contributing to a 3-5 record. Texans QB Brian Hoyer on his performance: ‘This was a bad day’
Houston Chronicle - about 1 year
Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer hesitated for a crucial moment Saturday before forcing the football into heavy traffic while trying to muscle the football into the hands of running back Alfred Blue inside the red zone. !function(D,id,s){ if(D.getElementById(id))return; s=D.createElement('script');s.id=id; s.src='//pollware-cdn.sodahead.com/pollware/pollware_890.js'; D.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(s); }(document,'sh-pollware-loader'); As Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Josh Mauga jumped in front of the pass for a critical second-quarter interception, the turnover squandered a prime scoring opportunity for the Texans’ hapless offense. The turnover typified a brutal day for Hoyer, arguably the most glaringly bad game of his career at the worst possible time. Hoyer’s judgment, decision-making, vision, timing and accuracy were all admittedly substandard. Hoyer was culpable for a lot of the Texans’ problems during a 30-0 AFC wild-card playoff defeat to the Chiefs on ...

Heart-Melting Photos Of California's First Gay Weddings Since Prop 8
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Jubilant gay and lesbian couples flocked to city halls and county courthouses across California on Monday to wed with pets, siblings and kids in tow as same-sex marriages resumed across the state following a five-year legal hiatus. Monday was the first chance for all but a handful of the state's same-sex couples to wed since 2008, when about 18,000 marriages went forward during a brief legal window before a voter-approved ban. Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to rule on the constitutional merits of that ban – called Proposition 8 – and a lower court on Friday said same-sex marriages could resume. On Sunday, Justice Anthony Kennedy rejected a last-ditch appeal. While a few lucky couples were able to score marriage licenses before government offices closed and wed late Friday and scores of others tied the knot at San Francisco City Hall over the weekend, Monday was the day many couples had been awaiting for years. The Los Angeles County clerk-recorde ...

Tyler R. Tynes: Saint Joe's Prep Starts Producing Star Prospects
Huffington Post Sports - about 4 years
In the eyes of the education world in and around the greater Philadelphia area, Saint Joseph's Preparatory School is a lost gem found in a pile of stones. For a city that has a struggling public school system and an even more questionable archdiocesan system for catholic schooling, "The Prep," as the school has been lovingly called, is the example for high school and pre-collegiate success. The catholic, urban and Jesuit institution opened in 1851. Since then, the school has served as the premier service on Jesuit education in, not only Philadelphia, but the entire country. For a school located in the middle of Northern Philadelphia, it has become extremely diverse. The Prep is a place that brings together the best from not only the city of Philadelphia, but also the greater area, as well as, parts of New Jersey. One could say that "The Prep" is legendary in its own right. Aside from the extraordinary academics of Saint Joseph's Prep, it is a renown athletic powerhouse a ...

Manning Uneven In Debut, Remains Confident: 'We Can Build On This'
Huffington Post - over 4 years
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Baby steps, not giant leaps. That's how Peyton Manning is marking his comeback. So, he was glad to get his first game in 19 months out of the way and use it as a building block. Manning was uneven in Denver's exhibition opener at Chicago on Thursday night even though he didn't have to contend with Julius Peppers or Brian Urlacher and had plenty of time to throw. His first pass was broken up, his second toss tipped and his last throw picked off at the goal line. In between, there were some very good signs for Manning and the Broncos (No. 10 in the AP Pro32), including a 19-yard completion to Eric Decker on third-and-17, good reads, nice runs and great protection. All in all, not a bad day's work. "It felt good to get out there," Manning said. "We can build on this." Plus, Manning wasn't hit in his first preseason game in two years, which came on a cool and rainy night in which the Bears held out quarterback Jay Cutler after a downpou ...

WATCH: Cancer Patient Makes AMAZING Video To Lift Spirits At Children's Hospital
Huffington Post - almost 5 years
Just one month after being diagnosed with leukemia, Chris Rumble decided to lift the spirits of fellow cancer patients at Seattle Children's Hospital with a little music. The 22-year-old put his filmmaking skills to work and organized a video set to the tune of Kelly Clarkson's hit song "Stronger" to give children, teens, families and staff on his floor a little bit of motivation -- and a reason to sing at the top of their lungs, KING 5 reports. And the uplifting atmosphere certainly provided patients with a change of pace. “It was kind of like a party ... It wasn't a typical day at all," Rumble told MSNBC. Rumble posted the video to YouTube, where it has been viewed more than 66,000 times since May 6. Following his recent diagnosis, doctors said they are confident Rumble can beat the cancer with several rounds of chemotherapy, KOMO News reports. The Washington native plans to attend Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y., on a hockey scholarship. In an Ap ...

Clark - Live At Village Undergound, London
Clash - almost 5 years
Chris ‘Clark’ is not an artist known for being particularly prolific. With the majority of his releases taking three years in the making there is a tendency to forget about this veteran of the IDM scene in between offerings. However, given the quality of 2009’s ‘Totems Flare’, Clark’s latest album ‘Iradelphic’ has been received with much expectation and there is certainly an eager air of anticipation at Shoreditch’s Village Underground for tonight’s launch. The album launch party can be a strange beast though. One would be forgiven for expecting it to be a showcase of the new album in all its shiny glory. But all too often this tends to be a misnomer and with the stage set for a straight-down-the-line one man DJ set it would appear tonight may fall into that category. The crowd is keeping their part of the bargain at least. There is a real party mood in the venue with the largely young audience getting high on life (or anything else they can get their hands on) during ...

Clark - Iradelphic
Clash - almost 5 years
A quick read through the bio provided for Clark’s new album ‘Iradelphic’ shows us that it really is a miracle that this album managed to come together into some tangible form of music with a melody. Recorded as far away as Australia and as local as London and Wales, ‘Iradelphic’ has come to form in rather disjointed circumstances. A month or so here, a month or so there, each studio with a different set up and varying amounts of equipment; this album must have been an absolute headache to be involved with. It is with these headache-inducing artists that Warp work best, squeezing out every last drop of creative energy. Chris Clark has evolved since we last met. Joining the live-drums always present in his recordings is acoustic guitar, learnt and played by Clark for this album alone. It is on songs like the magnificent ‘Secret’ where the guitar is put to best use, echoing the electronic/live paradox of artists like ...

Unleashed: A lesson in Halloween pet costume selection ... size DOES matter
mlive.com - over 5 years
Pet stores offer plenty of costumes to suit your dog or cat, if they're willing to be dressed up. Wende Clark photoPetie the Chihuahua doesn't exactly look thrilled to be dressed as a rooster, but at least the costume fits. I'm not big on dressing our dogs up for Halloween, but I'll confess I have done it on a few occasions. Nothing fancy ... drawing a circle around our dog's eye and calling it Petey from the Little Rascals, putting a muzzle on the Jack Russell and saying it's Hannibal Lecter, that sort of stuff. But when a representative from PetSmart called about doing a blog on Halloween pet costumes, I figured I might give it a shot. Our Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Truman, hasn't been subjected to being dressed up yet, so why not? I picked out a chicken/rooster costume for Truman since we live on what used to be a chicken farm. Perfect, I thought. The little chicken legs would dangle on the floor, since ...
