Coghill has been married to actress Lisa Faulkner since April 2005, having met her on the set of Burn It. Their wedding was held at Pembroke Lodge, in Richmond Park, London, and they honeymooned in Malaysia. They now reside in London and recently adopted a daughter, Billie.

Coghill later revealed in an interview that he rejected EastEnders producer Diedrick Santer's request for him to grow a moustache.
