Does Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Need to Be Super to Succeed?
Seattle Pi - about 3 years
When ABC launched Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the series was predicated on the idea that not all heroes are super, meaning fans knew ahead of time that they weren't getting The Avengers on television. Pair that with the fact that Skye could potentially have powers and it seems like the brain trust behind S.H.I.E.L.D. has learned that superheroes may be the answer to the ratings woes the series has faced thus far. Insisting that it was always the plan to bring in the supers, executive producer Jed Whedon says the show was trying to stay close to the Marvel cinematic universe, in which he says there were really only two human beings with powers - Captain America (Chris Evans) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). Does Skye know she's an 0-8-4 on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? "We are following a plan that we basically set out with from the beginning," executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen adds.

Here Are All The Movie Trailers You'll See During The Super Bowl
Business Insider - about 3 years
Other than the big game and the Super Bowl commercials Sunday, we're excited for new movie trailers. Six big studios will show televised spots for new spring and summer films. A 30-second spot to advertise during the game costs around $4 million this year. With that in mind, most studios are putting out two TV spots. Missing from the line up this year are Warner Bros. and Fox who won't promote their movies during the big game. Perhaps the biggest reveal will be the first footage from the next "Transformers" sequel. Between the big game, Bruno Mars' half-time show, and the plethora of ads, here's what trailers you can expect to see: DISNEY "Need for Speed" Release Date: March 2014Disney has been releasing a lot of TV spots and behind-the-scenes featurettes for the video game adaptation lately. Marvel Is Already Working On 'Captain America 3'
Business Insider - about 3 years
Marvel is wasting no time in planning the next Captain America sequel. Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors of the upcoming "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" are being brought back to direct a third installment in the series, according to Variety. This is a big commitment from Marvel considering "The Winter Solider" hasn't even hit theaters yet (and that the first Captain America film wasn't exactly Marvel's biggest box-office draw). However, Variety reports Marvel wanted to secure the directors after being so impressed by the production, test screenings, and current buzz for the upcoming film. The film may be in its early stages of development, but the Russos are already putting together the foundations for the "Captain America 3" storyline. This includes Chris Evans returning as the star-spangled hero. Marvel had no comment on the story. "Captain America: The Winter Solider" premieres April 4th. SEE ALSO: The full-length trailer for "Captain America: The Winter Sold ...

Hull residents in heaven after city of culture win
Guardian (UK) - over 3 years
News that Kingston-upon-Hull has won the race to be UK city of culture in 2017 has delighted those who live there "It's not long ago that this place was in the Crap Towns book, but there has been a lot of investment and a lot of progress," said Martin Taylor, of Hull History Centre, at the news that the city had been chosen as the UK's city of culture in 2017, beating off challenges from Dundee, Leicester and Swansea. "This will be a game changer." The Hull History Centre curates the archive of Philip Larkin, former librarian at the local university, whose poems such as Days inspired the bid. "The ambition is for each day of 2017 in Hull to showcase something individual, which will make a daily impact on the life of the city and have an impact across the country and the world," explained Taylor. "I'm sure the city will deliver something memorable, powerful and unique, much as the city is itself." News of the award has surprised some, with Lancastrian cricketer Andrew Flintoff askin ...

Zaki's Review: Thor: The Dark World
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Read my 2011 review of Thor here Read my 2012 review of Marvel's The Avengers here I enjoyed the first Thor quite a bit when I saw it in '11, referring to the Kenneth Branagh-directed film as, "a master class in brand management." And I didn't mean that in a bad way. As I said then, it had "the cool confidence that can only come from a studio that's danced this jig already and knows all the beats." Back then the Marvel Studios operation had already become something akin to an assembly line, and that machine-works has only become more practiced and precise in the wake of the senses-shattering success of 2012's team-up opus The Avengers. As such, while Thor's second solo feature (with star Chris Hemsworth back in armor as the hammer-wielding Thunder God) swaps in director Alan Taylor (HBO's Game of Thrones), the edifice that Branagh helped build last time is so sturdy that any changes are akin to changing the drapes. This is franchise filmmaking at its most efficient. It's either a g ...

Aaron Taylor-Johnson Reportedly Joins 'Avengers' Sequel
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Aaron Taylor-Johnson is apparently set to don new superhero garb in Marvel’s “The Avengers: Age of Ultron." Back in June, it was reported that the "Kick-Ass" actor was the front-runner to portray Quicksilver in Joss Whedon's blockbuster follow-up to "The Avengers." Now, TheWrap notes that Taylor-Johnson has closed a deal to take on the role after verifying that the "Ultron" shooting schedule won't clash with his publicity tour for the forthcoming "Godzilla" remake. Quicksilver is set to appear in two much-anticipated comic book sequels, "Ultron" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past." In "X-Men," the superhero's evil origins will be on display, with Evan Peters ("American Horror Story") taking that role. The "Avengers" sequel picks up after Quicksilver and twin sister Scarlet Witch pledge to fight for good instead. The latter version cannot refer to the character's mutant beginnings, as those aspects are unique to the Fox banner. ("Avengers" is produced by Disney.) Saoirse Ronan was or ...
