Labor Day Takes Place in a Fantasy World
Huffington Post - about 3 years
Movie Review Jackie K Cooper Labor Day (Paramount Pictures) Jason Reitman is the director of such hit movies as Up In the Air, Juno and Thank You For Smoking so he obviously knows his way around a good film. So what can account for his lapses concerning his new film Labor Day? This disjointed love story is flawed from the start and Reitman never regains control of the story. Josh Brolin and Kate Winslet make a brave effort to get something good on the screen but the irrational script, based on Joyce Maynard's novel, defeats them at every turn. The film loses its audience right at the start. This is when divorcee Adele (Winslet) takes her young son Henry (Gattlin Griffith) to the grocery store. This is a big thing as Adele is a bit of a recluse and going anywhere takes a great deal of willpower on her part. Thirteen year old Henry takes good care of her but she still has moments of nervousness that almost ove ...

Comics Legend Stan Lee Enrolls With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Huffington Post - about 3 years
The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will soon be making way for the agent of "Excelsior!" The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the speculation is true and that comic book legend, and catchphrase machine, Stan Lee will be appearing in an upcoming episode of the ABC show Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Lee has appeared as featured extras in most movies based on Marvel Comics characters, but he told THR his appearance is "a big role." The series, which exists alongside "The Avengers" in the Marvel cinematic universe, premiered last September and quickly gained a full-season pick-up by ABC. Aside from cameos by Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders -- who are established in the Marvel movies as Nick Fury and Maria Hill, respectively -- the show has been relatively light with big guest stars so Lee's role is notable. And lest we forget, Lee is actually the co-creator of the superspy organization S.H.I.E.L.D., so there's that. Still, the playfully boastful Lee has a habit of joking that all his ...

Seattle Pi - about 3 years
Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) essentially invited Ward (Brett Dalton) to her hotel room at the end of last week's episode after their shared bond of having touched the Asgardian Berserker staff. [...] May's new relationship with Ward isn't the only thing viewers learned about the tough-as-nails agent this week. The quiet girl who loved pulling pranks turned into a hardened agent, which is why Coulson (Clark Gregg) brought May on the plane - in hopes that he could find that girl he once knew. How May took out an entire enemy force still remains to be seen - but we already knew that would happen.

Critic's Notebook: 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' no-fuss leader is there to save the day from TV's complex antiheroes, a real bunch of downers. Of all the new fall shows, ABC's "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." was the most anticipated and continues to be among the most closely monitored by critics, columnists and Industry bloggers. Many people who are not ABC executives want this show to succeed: Avengers fans, Joss Whedon fans, Clark Gregg fans and parents clinging to that quaint old notion of family viewing. I do too.
