'Weiner': A Punchline or a Riff on Politicians' Peccadilloes
Huffington Post - 9 months
Really? Anthony Weiner wants unconditional love. This big baby, as he appears for real in Josh Kriegman and Elyse Steinberg's entertaining documentary Weiner, the former congressman wants to parlay his dick on the Internet and be elected for office. That's the size of it. After having been outed for this offense, Weiner ran for mayor, the occasion for the film. Josh Kriegman used to work for him and had the politician's confidence. By Weiner's side, his wife, the formidable Huma Abedin, aide to Hillary Clinton, grimaces but stands by her man. She is the most compelling reason to take this guy seriously; unrepentant the first time, he does it again. This bizarre self-destruction may belong to the Eliot Spitzer school of politics, but in the Alex Gibney documentary about the New York governor, Client 9, at least he could identify his hubris. Not Anthony Weiner! But still, for this movie, he is a relentless, charismatic star. You see him in action, flag-waving in parades. And, you see S ...

WATCH: Whoopi's Tough Questions For Zimmerman Lawyers
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Whoopi Goldberg had a tense encounter with George Zimmerman's defense attorneys on Monday's "View." Mark O'Mara and Don West, who have gone on a media tour following Zimmerman's acquittal in the killing of Trayvon Martin, seemed to know going in that they were not in an especially friendly venue. Whereas previous appearances found them gloating about the outcome of the trial, they were relatively subdued and restrained with Goldberg, Barbara Walters, and guest host Dan Abrams. Goldberg first asked about why Zimmerman hadn't simply hit Martin instead of shooting him. "If George Zimmerman is on his back on the ground, why wouldn't George just hit him and knock him off him?" she asked. "Because I don't understand the need to shoot and kill him. See, because, to me, when you kill somebody, there's an issue." When West started to describe the extent of the fight, Goldberg interrupted. "He was able to get his hand out. He was able to move the gun this way. If he was a ...

Meet The 'Fairy Godmother' Of Divorce
Huffington Post - over 3 years
It's no surprise that people often struggle to pay their divorce fees, but one former matrimonial lawyer is stepping in to help. Nicole Noonan, who is being heralded as a "divorce fixer" and "fairy godmother," stopped by Good Morning America on Tuesday to explain the work she does for BBL Churchill, a divorce financing and funding business. Noonan and her colleagues offer loans, typically around $250,000, to people who are considered "asset rich, but cash poor," in order help them afford the divorce process and not be persuaded into a smaller settlement. The company then collects interest ranging from 12 to 20 percent. “It levels the playing field for our clients,” Noonan said. “It gives them the ability to go into court, to not be backed into a settlement that is less than what they deserve.” However, though Noonan's clients have praised her work, ABC News legal analyst Dan Abrams fears that these divorce loans could encourage longer, more drawn-out divorces. ...

CNN Reportedly Bans Nancy Grace From 'GMA'
Huffington Post - over 3 years
HLN host Nancy Grace was allegedly banned from appearing on "Good Morning America," the New York Post reported on Friday. Grace regularly appeared on "GMA" as a legal analyst who would spar with ABC's Dan Abrams over various legal issues and trials. But since CNN launched its new morning show last month, Grace has appeared on "New Day" to discuss the George Zimmerman trial. Sources told the Post that CNN's new president Jeff Zucker has "banned" CNN and HLN talent, including Grace, from appearing on "GMA." A spokesperson denied that Grace had been "banned" but did say that the network asked that talent "not appear on other network’s morning shows, unless they are promoting a book or a personal project." The request is similar to other networks' policies. Like its cable news competitors, CNN has devoted a significant amount of programming to the Zimmerman trial, at times prioritizing trial coverage over other breaking news events like the political crisis in Egypt. Olivia Nuzzi: MSNBC: "All In" or "All Over"?
Huffington Post - over 3 years
With the Obama Administration going after the Associated Press and making a media martyr of James Rosen of Fox News Channel, it's hard to believe that the internet would be ablaze with any other media story. Even as some liberal sites are trying to minimize it in exactly the way they accused conservative sites of covering up for right-wing media failures. MSNBC has hit a ratings low in primetime not seen since the days that the network still carried a show hosted by raspy-voiced Fox News refugee Rita Cosby. Chris Hayes' new 8 PM lynchpin show has lost a third of the audience Ed Schultz had a year ago -- and Schultz himself had been relegated to weekends due to low ratings. Rachel Maddow's 'demo' audience was off by 20 percent and Lawrence O'Donnell's by 33 and it had all happened overnight! No, it hadn't. As in polling, you can get television numbers to tell you anything you want to hear. But even in that context, when ratings changes are this profound, they tell a stor ...
