Former Disney Channel fans may have recognized a familiar face on "Mad Men" last night: Danielle Panabaker. Marshall Fine: Movie Review: Girls Against Boys
Huffington Post - about 4 years
I found myself strangely compelled by Austin Chick's Girls Against Boys, as much for what it doesn't say as for what it does. The film starts with a flash-forward, with a young woman named Lu (Nicole LaLiberte), sexually teasing a cop (Matthew Rauch) in a bedroom, then getting him to let her blindfold and handcuff him to the bed. Then she pulls out his gun -- and as the vibe radically changes, the movie jumps into the past. The focus, in fact, is Shae (Danielle Panabaker), a college student first seen being dumped by her married lover. That night, while tending bar, she's obviously upset -- and is approached by another bartender, who turns out to be Lu. Lu suggests that they go find some guys and party, to take Shae's mind off her romantic problems. That, however, goes wrong when the guy she meets winds up raping her the next morning. When Lu finds out later, she hustles Shae off to the police station -- but the cops are unsympathetic and callous. So it's time for a l ...

This Week In Discs: Safe, The Five-Year Engagement, Piranha 3DD and More
Film School Rejects - over 4 years
Welcome back to This Week In Discs! As always, if you see something you like, click on the image to buy it. Quick A motorcycle courier finds himself targeted by police after a mysterious man forces him to deliver bombs to various addresses while an ex-girlfriend unlucky enough to have strapped an explosive helmet to her head comes along for the ride. This Korean effort takes the single plot thread of Speed and combines it with a lot of goofiness. The action runs the gamut of cartoony to thrilling, but it’s never less than entertaining. There’s also a little bit of heart to add more weight to the matter, but it’s never enough to extinguish the goofy fun. I’ll be honest… this is casual entertainment and a rental at best for most folks, but those of you as partial to Korean films as I am may want to pick it up too. Also available on DVD. Review: Sleazy 'Piranha 3DD' is sub-par sequel
Seattle Pi - over 4 years
Review: Sleazy 'Piranha 3DD' is sub-par sequel [...] the sub-par franchise installment "Piranha 3DD" will quickly sink beneath the waves to find a suitable resting place in video, where it will surely tempt younger viewers to outwit the R-rated restrictions. After a brief newsreel recap of the bloody events depicted in "Piranha 3D," the follow-up introduces marine biology graduate student Maddy (Danielle Panabaker), returning home for the summer to find her skeezy step-dad Chet (David Koechner) reopening the formerly wholesome water park run by her deceased mother. Complete with an "Adults Only" swimming pool full of mostly naked women, Chet's relying on the overt sleaze factor and the piranha massacre at now-defunct Lake Victoria, site of "Piranha 3D," to drive summer business into his park. With today's prevalence of online porn, amateur strippers and celebrity sex tapes, the target market is constantly shrinking, although the adequately handled 3D format, ki ...

Piranha 3DD
Evening Telegraph - almost 5 years
John Gulager wedges his tongue firmly in cheek to direct the bloodthirsty comedy sequel Piranha 3DD, based on a script by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. It has been a year since the events of Piranha 3D, in which a school of prehistoric fish with razor-sharp teeth was unleashed into Lake Victoria, Arizona, by an earthquake. The townsfolk are starting to recover from the incident, unaware that the voracious piranhas are still at large in the water system. Eventually, the predators swim through the plumbing and emerge into swimming pools, where unsuspecting residents are fresh meat. Deputy Fallon (Ving Rhames) struggles to maintain control of the nightmarish situation, and when the fish escape into a massive water park called Big Wet run by Maddy (Danielle Panabaker) and her father, the screams reach a deafening volume. Danielle Panabaker and Christopher Lloyd star in the film, while David Hasselhoff co-stars in a role which pokes fun at Baywatch. Piranha 3DD is showing at ...
