2 Hustons in '2 Jacks' ★&#9733 1/2
Chicago Times - over 3 years
In the "duh" department: Danny Huston sounds a lot like his late and legendary father, director, screenwriter and sometime actor John Huston — those rumbly, gravelly intonations are unmistakable. Now in a week's run at Facets, "2 Jacks" finds Huston pulling a sly and relaxed variation on his old man's image, in the role of an old-time Hollywood filmmaker scrambling for financing, partaking of a few of Hollywood's diversions, smoking the largest cigar on the market.

Family vows support for NM teen murder suspect
Fox News - about 4 years
Relatives of a New Mexico teen facing charges in the slayings of his parents and three younger siblings said Tuesday they are refusing to give up on the boy and are vowing to support him as his case moves through the justice system. Nehemiah Griego's family members told The Associated Press in an interview that they are heartbroken over the tragedy and that there were never any signs that something like this would happen. They described the 15-year-old as a normal teenager who was close to his family, loved wrestling with his father and brother, played in the church youth band and was known for his guitar solos. "Nehemiah is a loving kid. He loved his family and he made a really terrible mistake and we don't know why he did it," said his older sister, Annette Griego. "We don't know whether he had a mental breakdown. We just don't know. We don't have answers." Nehemiah Griego has been in custody since Jan. 19, when authorities ...

New Mexico teen accused of killing family 'involved heavily' with violent video games, sheriff says
Fox News - about 4 years
The New Mexico teenager accused of killing his parents and three younger siblings was 'involved heavily' with violent video games prior the shooting, the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office said. Nehemiah Griego, 15, who was 'frustrated' with his mother, was arrested Saturday following the deadly shootings at his home in a rural area southwest of Albuquerque where he lived with his family, Bernalillo County Sheriff Dan Houston said. The sheriff said Nehemiah Griego got excited when he had the chance to discuss his penchant for violent video games with investigators. One of the games he mentioned was "Modern Warfare," Houston said. The sheriff's office identified the victims as Greg Griego, 51, his wife Sarah Griego, 40, and three of their children: a 9-year-old boy, Zephania Griego, and daughters Jael Griego, 5, and Angelina Griego, 2. All appeared to have gunshot wounds to the head. His mother was shot and killed at 1 a.m. as she slept, Houston said. The 9-year-old was kill ...

New Mexico teen suspected of gunning down family described as a loner
Fox News - about 4 years
The 15-year-old boy charged with gunning down his parents and three siblings in the family's home Saturday night was a quiet loner who walked around his Albuquerque  neighborhood in camouflage military fatigues and did not attend the local school, say neighbors stunned at the teen's murderous rampage. Nehemiah Griego has been charged with two counts of murder and three counts of child abuse resulting in death. Police say he killed his parents, Greg and Sara Griego and three of their children with an assault rifle. The suspected gunman is being held at the Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Center as police and local residents try to make sense of the horrific crime. While police declined to discuss the boy's motives, area residents said he was a loner. "From what I hear neighbors were kinda scared of the kid," South Valley activist Tony Padilla told local news station KOB Channel 4. Area residents said the teen was almost always seen by himself and wore military-style clot ...

Who's TV's Best Supporting Actor?
Huffington Post - about 4 years
The Best Supporting Actor winner was Ed Harris at the Golden Globes ceremony on Sunday, January 13, 2013. Because the category includes TV series, TV movie and miniseries actors, the nominees were wide-ranging. Harris beat out Max Greenfield ("New Girl"), Danny Huston ("Magic City"), Mandy Patinkin ("Homeland") and Eric Stonestreet ("Modern Family") for his work in "Game Change." This is Harris' sixth Golden Globe nomination and second win. He took home a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Movie in 1999 for his performance in "The Truman Show." Harris was not on hand to accept the awards and some Globes viewers -- and "Homeland" fans -- were upset Patinkin didn't take home the award. The 2013 Golden Globes were handed out at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA. Nominees Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the ceremony on Sunday, January 13, which was broadcast on NBC.

What's The First Word On 'Hitchcock'?
Huffington Post - over 4 years
-- The man who made "Psycho" was no lightweight, though he kind of comes off that way in "Hitchcock." Starring Anthony Hopkins as Alfred Hitchcock and Helen Mirren as his wife and collaborator, Alma, "Hitchcock" puts a featherlight yet entertaining touch on the behind-the-scenes struggle to make the mother of all slasher films. Hitchcock's very dark side gets superficial treatment as the film offers the cinematic equivalent of psychobabble to explore the director's notorious gluttony, sexual repression and idolization of his leading ladies. Though shallow, "Hitchcock" has a playful quality that often makes it good fun, its spirit of whimsy a wink that the filmmakers know they're riffing on Hitchcock's merrily macabre persona and not examining the man with any great depth or insight. "Hitchcock" is a promising move into dramatic filmmaking for director Sacha Gervasi after his 2009 documentary "Anvil: The Story of Anvil," a chronicle of heavy-metal wannabes w ...

Brian Formo: The Film World Just Got a Little Less Beautiful
Huffington Post - over 4 years
For cinephiles with below-the-line awareness, yesterday was a very sad day with the passing of cinematographer Harris Savides. He was 55, with only 15 years of film credits, but his images will be revisited for ages. On Oct. 10, 2012, the film world got a little less beautiful. Savides' longevity in pop culture will be remembered for his kinetic lensing of the iconic music videos made by Mark Romanek including "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails, "Criminal" by Fiona Apple, "Scream" by Michael Jackson and "Bedtime Stories" for Madonna. He also shot commercials for international filmmakers Wong Kar-Wai and John Hillcoat. Due to his decades of work in commercials and music videos, it took until 1997 and David Fincher's paranoia yarn The Game to break him into cinematic work. His film credits included collaborations with some of the most acclaimed filmmakers working today, including multiple films directed by Fincher, Gus Van Sant, Sofia Coppola and Noah Baumbach. Hitchcock's Newest Poster Features The Rest Of The Cast Going Psycho
Perez Hilton - over 4 years
Ah! We knew it would come. The team behind Hitchcock has released more marketing material which showcases all of the film's major characters, not just the titular director played by Anthony Hopkins. The newest poster (above) features Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, Jessica Biel as Vera Miles, Helen Mirren as Alma Reville, James D'Arcy as Psycho star Anthony Perkins, Danny Huston as Whitfield Cook and Toni Collette playing the iconic director's personal assistant. While we thought it was going to be a simple biopic about all of the dramz that went down behind the scenes during the making of Psycho, it turns out it's actually a love story. Director Sacha Gervasi revealed the core of the story is Hitchcock's relationship with his wife and explained: “I think Alma accepts Hitch for exactly who he is and knows his idiosyncrasies and his crazy predilections. She allows him to have his obsessions and I think our movie is about a point where they sort of escalate. Their marriage ...
