Liev Schreiber and Janet McTeer in Les Liaisons Dangereuses Photo: Joan Marcus Christopher Hampton's 1985 stage adaptation of Choderlos de Laclos' 1782 epistolary novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses last appeared locally in a middling 2008 production starring Laura Linney and Ben Daniels at the Roundabout that was, despite the dazzling dialogue and amorous action, pretty much dull as ditchwater. Compared to which, this new production at the Booth--which originated at the Donmar Warehouse in London starring Janet McTeer, and with Liev Schreiber added to the mix for New York--rehabilitates the play's reputation. This new Liaisons, directed by the Donmar's artistic director Josie Rourke, is intelligent, colorful, and lively (mostly). Call it a solid B+. It is questionable--or perhaps dangereus?--to compare an all-new production with the original; one has to assume that the majority of the potential audience is coming to the play innocent. Were these two friends and what were the details of the crime? Submitted by: Michael, Roseville ANSWER: Douglas Randall Carlyle was arrested in November 1999 at his home in the Arden Arcade area. The arrest followed a six-month probe into the slaying of David Eugene Duke, 37, of Citrus Heights. Duke's decomposed body was found April 24 on a hillside in an area off Highway 50 near Ice House Road in El Dorado County. Investigators said Duke was shot and his body dumped in the wilderness. It took authorities a month to identify the body. An El Dorado County jury in November 2000 found Carlyle guilty of voluntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to 21 years in state prison.     More Details Hide Details David Dukes recorded several audiobooks, most notably Isaac Asimov's unabridged Prelude to Foundation. Dukes died of a heart attack in Spanaway, Washington while on location shooting the Stephen King mini-series Rose Red. His widow Carol Dukes' experiences with the medical examiner's office in Pierce County, Washington were so frustrating that she publicly spoke against the office's lack of cooperation. The ME's office would not let her see her husband's body, did not inform her of her rights or honor some of the rights she did try to exercise, and failed to detect evidence of a previous heart attack during his autopsy. Dukes is interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California.

Throughout his career, he was a television guest star, notably as the man who attempted to rape Edith Bunker on All in the Family and as a blind bully on Three's Company. During the 1980s, Dukes appeared in the dual miniseries The Winds of War and War and Remembrance. He received an Emmy nomination for best supporting actor for his role in The Josephine Baker Story (1991) and appeared as Arthur Miller in Norma Jean & Marilyn (1996). He was a regular in the first season of Sisters, playing the transvestite husband of oldest sister, Alex (Swoosie Kurtz). Dukes' role became a recurring character in subsequent seasons. On Dawson's Creek, he had the recurring role of Mr. McPhee, father to Jack (Kerr Smith) and Andie (Meredith Monroe) from the second through fourth seasons.
