Jennifer Saunders: 'Everyone's always saying, "You're frightening"'
Guardian (UK) - over 3 years
The star of Absolutely Fabulous talks about Dawn French and Joanna Lumley, performing in front of militant audiences in the 80s – and why she wanted to write an 'all right' memoir When Jennifer Saunders was approaching 50, she had an epiphany. "I was sitting in a meeting listening to everyone talking about some show or other, and I suddenly started thinking, do you know something? I think I have a better idea. I think my idea is probably better. Before that, if they'd said anything, I'd go, yes, yes, that's right, yes, agree, agree, agree. And I suddenly thought, actually, I think I can make this funnier, I think I know better. And it hadn't occurred to me until then that that could ever happen." How could it have taken the comedian so long to realise this? "It's terrible, isn't it?" she laughs. "That you end up thinking, oh look, everyone's cleverer than me. Everyone knows better than me. Everyone thinks I'm an idiot. I probably can't do this, I probably can't do that. I don't know ...

Justin Welby makes his debut appearance on BBC Radio 4's religious slot but admits he is not a regular listener The BBC's dedicated religious slot on Radio 4's Today programme may be an essential part of the morning routine for tens of thousands of people but it has emerged that the new head of the Church of England is not among them. At the end of his debut appearance on Thought for the Day – during which he drew a comparison between the different accounts of Christ's crucifixion on Good Friday and the way in which the Cypriot banking crisis has been reported – the archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, was questioned by presenters about how often he tuned in. The spiritual leader of the worldwide Anglican communion replied: "Oh dear." Pressed on reports that he never listens, he added: "Yes, it's not deliberate. KEITH NEWBERY Hair today, gone tomorrow – but a toupee is never a good look...
Chichester Observer - almost 5 years
T he cure for hair loss has been ‘five years away’ for as long as I can remember. In fact, I’ve gone seriously bald waiting for it. During that time I’ve resisted imprecations to rub my pate with goose fat, dowse it in a seaweed solution, stand on my head to improve the blood flow or attempt to rejuvenate the follicles by investing in stuff with names like scalpgro or nuhair4u. I’ve ignored theories that a wilting barnet is due to tight hats, lack of carnal activity, excessive shampooing or sleeping with the bed on a north-south axis. I used to scoff at suggestions that only great thinkers or great lovers went bald – but oddly enough, the idea has become more attractive with each passing year and each tumbling tress. But baldness has never been a condition which has caused me undue concern, because in the great scheme of things I’d rather lose my hair than any other part of my body. However, I sympathise with those poor wretches who scrutinise their combs every morning with a grow ...

Dawn French: “I Refuse To Dislike My Old Body”
BBC Blogs- America - almost 5 years
Dawn French’s astonishing weight-loss (100 pounds and counting)  has been one of the more remarkable things to happen this decade, and it has resulted in quite a bit of newspaper moralising. Not that anyone is criticising one of Britain’s favorite comediennes for changing shape, you understand, it’s just she always maintained that she was happy the way she was – even calling her autobiography Dear Fatty to underline the point – and of course there’s nothing a newspaper columnist likes more than to point out something that looks like hypocrisy, even if it isn’t. Thankfully, Dawn has now stepped forward to clarify the matter. It seems that her only consideration was to be able to stay alive longer, to watch her daughter Billie grow up. Had it not been for this, she’d be mainlining chocolate and carbs to this very day. She told the Mirror: “When you’re over 50 you have to pay attention to your health a bit. I want to be there for my kid. “I have quite a lot of exciting adventures ...
