Hugh Jackman Gushing About His Wife On 'Ellen' Is The Definition Of True Love
Huffington Post - about 1 year
Hugh Jackman has officially restored our belief in true love.  During his appearance on "Ellen" on Monday, the Australian actor couldn't help but gush about his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness.  When host Ellen DeGeneres congratulated Jackman on his upcoming 20-year (!!!) anniversary, the "X-Men" star admitted, "It gets better and better, and I can honestly say that."  "And she’s not even here," he joked, before adding, "she’s the greatest thing that ever happened to me." Jackman met his wife on his first job -- "She was the star, and I had this major crush on her," he admitted -- but was too embarrassed to talk to her. Eventually, the actor invited Furness to a dinner party. Afterward, she confronted him, asking if she'd done something wrong to make him ignore her, when he told her the truth.  "I'd had a couple, and I said, 'Oh, look, I got a crush on you, I'll get over it,'" Jackman explained. "And she went, 'Oh, really?' And I was like, Oh, this is bad. And she g ...

After Midnight: Resurrecting Harlem in its Heyday
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Old Harlem is celebrated in Harlem, and on Broadway in After Midnight. Last weekend, a ribbon cutting at Minton's, Richard Parson's supper club, marks the return of a legendary Harlem jazz joint, where large photos of Duke and Dizzy, Ella and Billie grace a renovated dining room and all eyes lead to a small back room stage ready for the downbeat. That spirit travels downtown, to a show featuring the big sound, the moves, the silver and white elegance of a bygone era. "It's gonna be good," Wynton Marsalis grinned confidently as Hugh Jackman with Deborra Lee Furness, Mary Louise Parker, Barbara Walters, and many others filed into the at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre for opening night of After Midnight, a revue evoking The Cotton Club of the 1920's. Under Wynton Marsalis' direction The Jazz at Lincoln Center All Stars big band dominates the stage, world class musicians, with a cast of dancers and vocalists, precise and excellent in their interpretations of familiar Tin Pan Alley tunes from ...

Jackman rages away in 'Prisoners'
San Francisco Chronicle - over 3 years
Hugh Jackman may spend an inordinate amount of time playing a mutant wolf superhero, but even the Australian actor realizes his image is somewhat defanged. Whether it's because he hasn't shied away from musicals, on Broadway and in "Les Miserables," or because Jackman happens to be a charmingly upbeat family man, he isn't typically the first candidate to play a rage-spewing, formerly alcoholic survivalist. When the chief suspect (Paul Dano) is released from custody by the police detective in charge of the case (Jake Gyllenhaal), Jackman's father ("almost Charles Bronson-y," he says) pursues and tortures him. Gyllenhaal, whose pursuit is rational and methodical next to Jackman's furious, morally questionable mania, says of the two characters: We are the right and left side of the brain of this film. Jackman, the father of two children with his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, researched the part by learning about kidnapping experiences and the mentalities of survivalists. "[...] this guy ...

Hugh Jackman, Wife Deborra-Lee Furness Open Up About Marriage In Town & Country
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Hugh Jackman, then 26, met his wife Deborra-Lee Furness, then 39, on set back in 1995 when he was hired to play her love interest in his first professional acting job. Just one year later, they tied the knot. In the October 2013 issue of Town & Country, the couple -- who have been married since 1996 -- recalled the beginnings of their love story. The "X-Men" actor explained that in spite of their palpable chemistry, he was hesitant to confess his true feelings because he was embarrassed about falling for the leading lady. Eventually he came clean to Furness, only to discover she felt the same way. Still, he tried to play it cool. “I decided, I won't ask her to marry me for six months,” Jackman told the magazine. “Then after four months I thought, 'That's the most ridiculous rule!'” In August, the actor opened up about how he popped the question. First he set up a table with croissants and flowers next to a lake at a botanical garden, then he led her to the table during a morn ...

Huffington Post - about 4 years
If there is one rule for acceptance speeches at awards shows, it's this: Thank your spouse!
