Robert De Niro 'Left His Socks On' During Sex
Huffington Post - about 4 years
Looking for some sordid details about the minutiae of celebrities' sexual habits? Carole Mallory has the scoop. The actress and model, who starred in 1975's "The Stepford Wives" and was the common-law wife of writer Norman Mailer, has followed up her 2010 memoir "Loving Mailer" with another juicy book about her many glamorous love affairs. In the book, titled "Picasso's Ghost," Mallory gushes about her engagement to Pablo Picasso's son, Claude, as well as her affairs with Richard Gere, Peter Sellers and Robert De Niro -- the latter of whom Mallory said wears socks while having sex. Mallory and De Niro met at the Chateau Marmont in 1975 and engaged in a 14-day affair. “During lovemaking, he never stopped looking in my eyes,” she writes in "Picasso's Ghost." “He had a butterfly tattoo that I later realized matched his flighty spirit. So did the fact that he left his socks on. The following year he married Diahnne Abbott ... I would have appreciated a phone call.” ...

'New York, New York' 35th Anniversary: The Movie That Almost Destroyed Martin Scorsese
Moviefone Blog - over 4 years
Nearly every one of the great directors who came of age in the 1970s -- including Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg, William Friedkin, Peter Bogdanovich, Michael Cimino -- had his own personal Waterloo. Within five to ten years of their breakouts, they'd each shot a massive flop, an epic where ambition and ego had outraced maturity and restraint. Coppola had "One from the Heart," Spielberg had "1941," Friedkin had "Sorcerer," Bogdanovich had "At Long Last Love," and Cimino (most infamously) had "Heaven's Gate." In Scorsese's case, the iceberg was his lavish musical "New York, New York" (released 35 years ago this week, on June 21, 1977). Its failure not only marred his career, it nearly killed him. The disaster may have begun with Scorsese's stylistic approach to the movie, a clash between incompatible filmmaking modes of the old Hollywood he admired and the new Hollywood he'd helped replace it with. It was exacerbated by his eagerness to embrace chaos throu ...

ROBERT DE NIRO
NYTimes - over 23 years
Robert De Niro is speaking. This is not as rare an event as some might lead you to suspect. On the other hand, this is a man whose resolute faith in action and the telling nature of behavior makes him wary of mere words and their potentially deadening effects. "Don't talk it away," he and Martin Scorsese would caution one another when considering a

FILM: 'LOVE STREAMS,' WITH JOHN CASSAVETES
NYTimes - over 32 years
There's no other American director who can do what John Cassavetes does on the screen. There may not be many who would want to. Mr. Cassavetes's work, in ''Love Streams,'' as in his earlier films, is as overflowing with emotional constructs as it is barren of other forms of thought. It's excessive and idiosyncratic all the way. Yet Mr. Cassavetes,

Rupert Pupkin: That's the name of the main character in Martin Scorsese's ''King of Comedy,'' though people sometimes call him Mr. Pipkin or Mr. Pumpkin by mistake. SCREEN: SCORSESE'S 'KING OF COMEDY'
NYTimes - about 34 years
IT would be difficult to describe Martin Scorsese's fine new film, ''The King of Comedy,'' as an absolute joy. It's very funny, and it ends on a high note that was, for me, both a total surprise and completely satisfying. Yet it's also bristly, sometimes manic to the edge of lunacy and, along the way, terrifying. It's not an absolute joy by a long
