Psychics Offer Up Their Skills For American Legion Auxiliary

In the early 1990s, members of the Barnegat American Legion Post 232 Auxiliary noticed the success some other veteran service organizations and their auxiliaries in Ocean County were having with psychic fairs and decided to give it a try.
Twenty years later, the tradition is alive in Barnegat.
Seventy-six residents from all over the area, from Barnegat and Lacey to Toms River, came to the Post headquarters on Route 9 to spend Friday the 13th trying to glimpse their futures.
"I saw this done in the Elks in Manahawkin, and I started it here," said Roni Covello, 55, a member of the auxiliary. "Everybody likes a psychic. Women do, men do."
"We've had a lot more men lately," said Joan Sonnenberg, 59, the auxiliary's president. "We've had couples come in and do readings together. We've had people do all five psychics in one night."
