Fear Factor: Horror makes big moolah in Bollywood
The Express Tribune Blogs - over 4 years
Raaz 3 starring Emraan Hashmi, Bipasha Basu and Esha Gupta is probably the costliest and one of the most successful horror movies of recent times. Made on a budget of INR250 million, the film has collected over INR600 million in two weeks, reports the Hindustan Times. What is the secret behind his ‘scary’ success? Director Vikram Bhatt told IANS in an interview: “It is not easy to scare the audience because they can even make fun of your film very easily. You need to find new ways to scare them because if you repeat the same thing again and again, people will get used to it.” The horror genre kicked off in Bollywood as early as the 1940s. Cult horror movies like Mahal, Bees Saal Baad and Bhoot Bungla worked well commercially at the time, but somewhere down the line, the genre lost its touch. This started to change with Ram Gopal Varma and the film Raat which was written, produced and directed by him. It starred Revathi in the role of protago ...

Bipasha will win all the awards for 'Raaz 3': Dino Morea
The Express Tribune Blogs - over 4 years
MUMBAI: Critics may have not liked Raaz 3 too much, but Dino Morea is confident that Bipasha Basu will sweep all the awards next year. Dino and Bipasha watched Raaz 3 in a theatre here. “One thing I can say that Bipasha will win all the awards next year. I got really scared, it’s a nice film. It has been shot really well, quite scary. Audiences’ reactions were very good,” the 36-year-old, who was her co-star in ‘Raaz’, said here Tuesday. Bipasha tagged along Dino, whom she dated for few years, as she wanted to share this moment with him. “I wanted to see my film with the audiences for the first time with Dino. I had not seen it, was very busy. It has been doing really well, the business has been fantastic and I wanted to share this moment with Dino,” she said. Directed by Vikram Bhatt, Raaz 3 also stars Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta.

Superstars are remembered only when they die: Bipasha Basu
The Express Tribune Blogs - over 4 years
NEW DEHLI: After being in the industry for more than a decade, Bipasha Basu says an actor’s life is a rather sad one. She explains that even superstars fade away after a certain point and are remembered only when they are gone forever. “The biggest of superstars are remembered only when they die. But what do you do? It is very sad, but that is the way it is. Nothing is permanent in life,” Bipasha told IANS. A classic example is Rajesh Khanna, Bollywood’s first superstar. Forgotten for almost a decade, it was discovered he was at the hospital and reported dead a few days later. Following his death, however, there was a nationwide outburst of grief, she added, emphasising her point. “Once you achieve success, you just want to continue working and not be forgotten. It is an emotion every actor worldwide deals with,” said the 33-year-old, who plays an actor whose career is on the downfall in her forthcoming film Raaz 3. Raaz 3 is about struggle of ...

Racy Sunny Leone features in Ali Azmat’s song – so what?
The Express Tribune Blogs - over 4 years
KARACHI:  Ali Azmat is a true Pakistani rock star. Where his grooves and music never fail to impress us, his peculiar quirks and extreme-right political views simply add to his eccentric personality. But this time around, it’s not his political ideology that has brought him into the limelight – it’s the songs he has sung for the freshly released, racy B-town film, Jism 2. The new erotic thriller has proved to be popular at the Indian box office, raking in a staggering INR210 million on its opening weekend. The film falls under the Jism brand as a sequel to the movie released nine years ago, starring the steamy duo of Bipasha Basu and John Abraham. While some believe it is nothing more than erotica – with the new film starring Indian-Canadian adult film actor Sunny Leone in more than one ‘compromising’ position – others feel there is more to it than meets the eye. Either way, it has created quite a buzz in Bollywood, which is seeping over to Pakis ...

Hate Story: Vengeance with vulgarity
The Express Tribune Blogs - almost 5 years
We all know Vikram Bhatt as the infamous director who dares to be different. Remember Raaz, the horror movie starring  Dino Morea and Bipasha Basu? Well this time Bhatt is back with a film that he penned himself. Hate Story brings to screen the same old Bhatt formula; the story of a scorned, wounded woman seeking vengeance. However, the very first promo of the movie makes quite an impact;  with audacious and explicit scenes and lines, this film promises to be the “the most controversial film of the year“. Hate Story revolves around a journalist, Kavvya Krishnamorti (Paoli Dam) who conducts a sting operation and successfully defames a corporate house. However, her ascending career comes at the expense of a destructive personal life – in the form of Siddarth (Gulshan Devaiah). After being seared with scars, emotionally and physically, Kavvya has one mission in her already dead existence;  to rip Siddarth apart and break his company “brick by brick”. The simple middle class journa ...
