Mozart's 225th And More: Chats With Prof. Cliff Eisen & Paul Moseley, Michael A. Levine and Peter White
Huffington Post - 4 months
A Conversation with Professor Cliff Eisen Mike Ragogna: Professor Eisen, in the new Mozart 225 box set that celebrates his 225th anniversary, your narratives on the iconic composer sometimes contradict the romanticized version we’re often taught about as school children. I think the movie Amadeus was the first approach at presenting a competing image of Mozart, but your book portrays yet another variation of him. What do you feel are some of the more important and perhaps controversial facts everyone should know about the composer? Prof. Cliff Eisen: I think the most striking thing is that, as far as I can tell, Mozart was not a neglected, underrated composer, more or less abandoned by the Viennese musical public, someone who, disengaged from the world around him, retreated into his own private musical world. On the contrary, his own letters and other contemporaneous writings about him show that he was fully engaged with everyday life, that he achieved remarkable success in hi ...

ELLIE GOULDING'S CATCHING FIRE WITH HUNGER GAMES' "MIRROR" For those who just arrived on the planet, the next installment of The Hunger Games movie franchise is Catching Fire, and one of the pieces featured on its soundtrack album will be Ellie Goulding's "Mirror" that presents perhaps our first taste of the musical mood of the movie. Check out this exclusive audio track... For more info: http://smarturl.it/CatchingFireiT NOT YOUR FATHER'S SMOOTH JAZZ Probably most everyone reading this piece who hasn't been keeping up on such things believes that "smooth jazz" is still sonic wallpaper, you know, light music that would numb one into submission at work, a soundtrack for trips to the mall, background music for meals, et cetera. However, I felt a little differently about the subject, and since I interviewed many of this genre's artists over the last few years, I figured I'd check out what truly was going on firsthand via Entertainment Cruise Productions' recent Smooth Jazz Cruise ...

Huffington Post - over 3 years
A Conversation with Lee DeWyze Mike Ragogna: Lee, tell us a little something about yourself. Lee DeWyze: Well, I love music and my golden retriever and my wife. MR: In that order? LD: No. Not in that order. MR: [laughs] LD: And my fans. I love my fans. MR: You grew up listening to artists like Cat Stevens and Simon & Garfunkel, but can you tell us a little more about your musical upbringing? LD: I grew up in a pretty musical household. My mom always liked to sing and my dad was always listening to music. The first music I ever really fell in love with was Cat Stevens' Tea For The Tillerman was the first record I recall listening to on vinyl. I remember when I first found the record, I saw the picture on the front and I was just enamored by it. I was like, "Oh, what is this?" My dad was like, "Let me play it for you," and I fell in love right then and there. MR: What were some of your favorite songs from that? I'm guessing "Father & Son" is ...

Scotia Insight: What will your retirement look like?
Financial Post - almost 5 years
Have you noticed that it’s easier to achieve something when you have a clear image of your goal? For example, placing a photo of Paris on your desk can inspire you to keep contributing to your vacation fund. The same logic goes for retirement planning. It can seem like a vague long-term goal, unless you visualize specific aspects of your retirement years. By creating a clearer picture in your mind — maybe of a dream condo down south or starting a post-retirement business — it’s easier to concentrate on saving for that future. This will also help you take steps to determine how much your individual retirement will actually cost, and how much you need to save. Get started by pondering the key aspects of your retirement lifestyle, including where you will live and what activities will keep you busy. Think about each idea in some detail. For instance, if travel is on your list, you need to consider your preferred style of travel and the frequency. Do you see yourself enjoying short roa ...
