Rep. Steve Cohen’s statement on his tweets to singer Cyndi Lauper
Fox News - almost 4 years
COHEN STATEMENT ON CYNDI LAUPER TWEETS, POLITWOOPS AND ABSENCE OF MALICE   WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today released the following statement about the “Cyndi Lauper” tweets he deleted earlier this week:   “On Tuesday night, the President and Mrs. Obama, along with the Grammys and PBS, hosted a musical tribute to Memphis Soul at the White House.  Wanting to promote this great program, which will air this coming Tuesday on PBS, I realized the best way to do this was to tweet and delete.  I knew the Sunlight Foundation would highlight the deleted tweet as a Politwoop and knowing how some in the media report deleted Politwoops as nefarious, it occurred to me that a perfectly innocent, factually-correct tweet, once deleted, would receive great media attention.  And that is exactly what happened when I tweeted:   @cyndilauper great night, couldn’t believe how hot u were.see you again next Tuesday.try a little tenderness.   “The night at the White Hou ...

The Steve Cropper/Eddie Floyd "Knock on Wood" launched Floyd's solo career, and has been cut by over a hundred different artists from David Bowie to Count Basie. Eventually, Redding would cut an R&B hit version of the song in 1967 as a duet with Carla Thomas. It became a disco hit for Amii Stewart in 1979. Floyd was one of Stax's most consistent and versatile artists. He scored several more hits on his own, including "I've Never Found a Girl (To Love Me Like You Do)" and "Raise Your Hand", which was covered by both Janis Joplin and Bruce Springsteen. The song "Big Bird" (featuring Booker T. Jones on organ and guitar, Al Jackson, Jr. on drums, and Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass) was written while Floyd waited in a London airport for a plane back to the United States for Otis Redding's funeral. Although not a US hit, it became an underground favorite in the UK, was later covered by The Jam, and was featured on the video game Test Drive Unlimited.
