Sylvia Elisabeth Rodriguez immigrated to the United States when she was five years old. Rodriguez arrived in Miami not speaking English but quickly learned in school, passing all five levels of the ESOL program in less than two years. Rodriguez and her family later moved to Orlando. Rodriguez began riding at a local stable called Ledesma Equestrian Center where she learned the sport of showjumping.

    Elisabeth Rodriguez decided to use her writing and reading to solve a problem of hers. On December 18, 2006, Elisabeth published a 136-page novel titled Jumping Jack.

Elisabeth appeared on many newspapers (both English and Spanish) in Florida including La Prensa, El Nuevo Dia, East Orlando Sun, East Orange Forum, and The Herald. Rodriguez also had several books signings at Barnes & Noble and art festivals around Florida. Elisabeth appeared on CNN, Fox, News 13, and iWitness News. Not too long after publishing Jumping Jack, Adrienne Provost of Gryphon Stables in northern Florida offered to give her a 10-year-old spirited and retired racehorse named Chandler on the condition that she could manage to handle him. Elisabeth and her family were forced to leave Florida and leave Chandler behind. The family relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina where Elisabeth began middle school. She rode at a small farm nearby. The Rodriguez family bought a house along with a small portion of land in Clayton, NC
