Seashells Are Better Than Potato Chips. That's Why I'm Writing a Book
Huffington Post - about 3 years
I love writing posts here at The Huffington Post. With so many categories to choose from, I can write about anything I like and I am honored to have had so many posts receive such positive feedback. I recently wrote a post called 10 Reasons Being 50 is F**king Awesome which received a huge amount of attention because it was published during the media frenzy of Michelle Obama's 50th birthday. I had no idea her birthday was coming up. It was pure luck. I was asked to contribute to several articles and even appeared on CNN to talk about how great it is to be fifty. Several noted journalists followed me on Twitter and the excitement of being on national TV was heady. Three days later it was over. The First Lady had her party, Monday came, and there was something new to talk about. In a matter of days, my article was old news and I was forgotten. Unless I quickly churned out something just as timely, I was going to lose the momentum of the moment. I submitted another article which was p ...

Emma Nicholson: Top 10 Worst Things About Being Married To A Younger Man
The Huffington Post - about 3 years
Being married to a younger man has been a learning experience, for sure. I'm not one of those women who fear my younger spouse will ditch me eventually for a young hot babe but there are definitely some drawbacks: 1. The Comments: If one more person, after finding out my husband is 10 years younger, says "You GO, girl!" or "What a cougar!" I'm going to lose my shit. I didn't stalk him in the bushes and drag him home to my senior assisted-living apartment. My husband pointed out no one ever says anything to him so he is off that hook. What would they say, anyway? "Way to work out your lingering mother issues, dude"? 2. The Assumption We Are Having Sex 24/7: While it's true younger men have more (ahem) stamina, our sex life is as boring and predictable as any other married couple. For example, when I ask my husband if he is in the mood for a "BJ", he knows I am asking if he would like to snarf down a pint of Ben and Jerry's with me. Doesn't get sexier than that, folks! ...

New acting head for village school
Bury Free Press - over 4 years
A VILLAGE school has welcomed a new acting headteacher. Emma Nicholson has taken the helm at Cockfield Primary for two terms until the end of spring. She is on secondment from her role as deputy head at Glade Primary, in Brandon, where she is contracted to return. Mrs Nicholson was a successful applicant on Suffolk County Council’s Acting Headteacher scheme and appointed following the departure of previous head Eunice Francis. She has already introduced a more topic-based creative curriculum where taught subjects are linked to a particular text or theme. It follows similar work at Glade Primary. She said: “Currently Year One and Two are looking at dinosaurs so they will cover all the subjects based on that theme. “That’s what we will be seeing more of within the school.” Mrs Nicholson also wants to make the school a bigger part of the community. The school is part of the Thurston Partnership, which is a group of 18 schools working together as the area moves to two tier educat ...

Due partially to her pressure, the Romanian government in 2005 implemented legislation that de facto banned international adoptions, in line with practices in some of the EU member states.
More Details Hide Details The measure generated controversy, mainly in the US, Israel, France, Spain and Italy, particularly from prospective parents who had filed papers for adopting a Romanian child but whose efforts were halted by the ban. International and Romanian media also called attention to poor conditions in Romanian orphanages and hospitals where abandoned children remained for prolonged periods, while acknowledging some progress made in reforming child protection. In December 2005 and July 2006, the EP passed measures requesting Romania deal with outstanding pipeline cases, despite Romania having dismissed these formally through legislation after consultation with an Independent Panel of EU Experts on Family Law. Critics claimed the Independent Panel was stacked with opponents of international adoptions. The U.S. Congress also passed repeated measures and held hearings opposing the ban.
In January and December 2005 she was a member of the United Nations Election Observation Missions to Iraq.
More Details Hide Details Lady Nicholson also generated controversy through her strong opposition to international adoptions, which she believed had become a market and subject to corruption. While the EP's Special Rapporteur for Romania's EU accession she and some others in the international community criticized international adoptions.
