Family Rewrites DMX Song For Epic Back-To-School Video
Huffington Post - 7 months
Back-to-school season is upon us, bringing school supply lists, new clothes and of course, a new parody music video from the Holderness family. Penn and Kim Holderness rewrote “Party Up (Up In Here)” by DMX to celebrate the end of summer, aka the season when kids are wreaking havoc at home, complaining of boredom and making their parents carry all their stuff to the community pool every day. “Three months together is a beautiful thing but yeah ... time for the bell to ring,” Penn sings. And as the chorus sums up perfectly, “Y’all need to go back to school, up in here, up in here.” Happy back-to-school season, parents! -- This feed and its contents are the property of The Huffington Post, and use is subject to our terms. UAlbany-led Study Finds Vibration Theory of Odor Perception Implausible
Yahoo News - almost 2 years
ALBANY, N.Y., April 21, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- An international team of scientists led by University at Albany Distinguished Professor of Chemistry Eric Block, have demonstrated that the vibrational theory of olfaction, one of the two major theories explaining how the sense of smell functions, is not plausible. Published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the research compared the reactivity of muscone (the major component of musk fragrance, used in most perfumes) and its counterpart with all hydrogen atoms replaced by the heavy hydrogen isotope deteurium, toward the human musk olfactory receptor. The researchers found that the receptor responded identically to the two compounds, which is counter to expectations for the vibration theory, since carbon–deuterium bonds have very different vibrational frequencies than carbon–hydrogen bonds. The vibration theory of olfaction suggests that a molecule's smell is based on its vibration frequency, similar to how col ...

Montana's justices rebel against Citizens United decision | Eric Black Ink
Minn Post - about 5 years
The Montana Supreme Court has rebelled against the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling that gave birth to the SuperPAC. The Montana Supremes decided last week that, in Montana at least, corporate funds can be banned from politics. It seems likely that the Montana ruling will be overturned. But perhaps the ruling can be the occasion for the U.S. Supremes, now that it’s clear what the Citizens United ruling has wrought, to improve the situation, especially since several key elements of the logic underpinning Citizens United have turned out to be fantasy. Slate’s Dahlia Lithwick has a great summary. I’ll mention a few key points. Background The 2002 McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform law had barred corporations and labor unions from using their treasuries to pay for campaign ads. In Citizens United, the U.S. Supremes struck down that provision, thereby allowed corporations to make unlimited contributions as long as the money went to “independent” groups, not to the c ...
