Reportedly worried that Hitler was going to invade the United States, Howard made plans to fake the drowning of her son, set up a false identity, and escape to Mexico where she had money waiting. Frances Howard died in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, California, aged 73. She was interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale in Glendale, California.
