Van Halen’s been so many incarnations – the original straight-ahead rock days, the “Jump” MTV heyday, the Van Hagar era, whatever that was for five minutes with Gary Cherone, and now the reinvented version, with David Lee Roth and his leather pants taking their rightful place in a band that is now three-quarters Van Halen.
Here are five good reasons to check out the current version when they swing by BankAtlantic Center on Tuesday:
1. Because nobody but nobody embodies the essence of the quintessential frontman like Diamond Dave. He still pulls off some of those high kicks, even if he’s not wearing pink leopard print leggings anymore.
2. Because the tour apparently focuses on its head Van Halen – Eddie, that is. He’s one of the most influential rock guitarists ever, and after years of struggle, he’s apparently in top shredding form.
