BRAD PITT'S COLLEGE DAYS =========================by Lucy EdkinsRecognise the man in the middle? Even as a 23-year-old studentBrad Pitt was already taking centre stage, as this Universitygroup photo shows. Movie star Pitt majored in journalism with a focus on advertising at the University of Missouri, Colombia, but left in 1986, two credits short of graduating, because he skipped his final class - making a calendar on Missouri men. He made up for it by throwing himself into student life, and was a fervent member of the Sigma Khi fraternity - a kind of drinking society for red-blooded male students. "The Sigma Khi was a social fraternity," explains University alumni co-ordinator Debbie Landi."Basically, it's just an excuse to drink and party." And Landi adds that Pitt, who followed in the footsteps of a string of famous alumni including Tennessee Williams, George C Scott and Steven Spielberg's wife Kate Capshaw, was never renowned for his academic prowess. She says, "From the sounds of things, Brad didn't do too much work while he was here. He didn't graduate because he failed to complete his last class." Pitt, who headed straight to California from the university, spent the next few years supporting himself by driving strippers in limos, moving refrigerators and dressing as a giant chicken while working for the fast food chain "el Pollo Loco". His big break came when he landed a role in Thelma and Louise, but his stage debut had come a lot earlier, taking parts in University productions. Landi adds, "He would occasionally appear in University plays and shows."Nothing on the scale of what he does now though!" (LE/WN/NFA)Ends....WENN
