Rice's father is Thomas Rice, who was appointed by Governor Dick Celeste as Director of the Ohio Highway Patrol, and later served as the safety director for the city of Columbus during the administration of Mayor Greg Lashutka. Rice is married to actor Ted McGinley (Married... with Children, Hope & Faith). They have two children. Their oldest son goes to Harvard-Westlake. She is managed by her college roommate, Heidi Ifft, owner of Bamboo Management, a talent management production company.
