A Playlist Without Borders: A Conversation with Yo-Yo Ma, Plus Chatting with Steve Nieve, The Mission's Wayne Hussey and 3OH!3's Nathaniel Motte
Huffington Post - over 3 years
A Conversation with Yo-Yo Ma Mike Ragogna: Hey Yo-Yo, how are you? Yo-Yo Ma: I'm okay, how are you? MR: I'm fine, and thank you again for allowing me to interrogate you about your latest. YYM: Thank you. Is the light shining in my eyes? Is the interrogations going to be painful? Is there any waterboarding involved? MR: [laughs] No, not this time. And that bright light shining in your eyes? That's just your own consciousness flowing. YYM: Oh my goodness, that's the worst kind of interrogation. That's really tough. MR: [laughs] Let's talk about The Silk Road Ensemble with Mr. Yo-Yo Ma. The gang has a new album A Playlist Without Borders, and I think the concept is awesome. And you have been entangled--we'll get to your Tanglewood DVD in a moment--with this group for a long time now. YYM: Well, I'm guilty. MR: Another successful interrogation. YYM: I just want to spare myself the pain, so I'm declaring myself totally guilty as charged and I hope that which will be forthcoming w ...

While it's difficult to write extensively about a band with such a limited output, it's easy to see the Zags' star-spangled trajectory: clocking in at just over two minutes (if you need any longer than that to make your point in the realm of pop music, you're doing it wron ...

Mike Ragogna: Frames, Division Street & HandPicked: Conversations with Lee DeWyze, Harper Simon and Earl Klugh
Huffington Post - over 3 years
A Conversation with Lee DeWyze Mike Ragogna: Lee, tell us a little something about yourself. Lee DeWyze: Well, I love music and my golden retriever and my wife. MR: In that order? LD: No. Not in that order. MR: [laughs] LD: And my fans. I love my fans. MR: You grew up listening to artists like Cat Stevens and Simon & Garfunkel, but can you tell us a little more about your musical upbringing? LD: I grew up in a pretty musical household. My mom always liked to sing and my dad was always listening to music. The first music I ever really fell in love with was Cat Stevens' Tea For The Tillerman was the first record I recall listening to on vinyl. I remember when I first found the record, I saw the picture on the front and I was just enamored by it. I was like, "Oh, what is this?" My dad was like, "Let me play it for you," and I fell in love right then and there. MR: What were some of your favorite songs from that? I'm guessing "Father & Son" is ...

David Wild: 'Celebrity:' A Playlist for the Premiere of $ellebrity
The Huffington Post - about 4 years
Tuesday night is our big Hollywood premiere for $ellebrity, an intriguing new feature documentary directed by Kevin Mazur about the price of fame today, and the way that the texture of celebrity has evolved -- or, it could be argued, de-evolved -- over time. As an executive producer of $ellebrity, I clearly hope that you see the film for which I interviewed Jennifer Aniston, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Lopez, Sheryl Crow, Elton John and Kid Rock, among others, about the good, the bad and the ugly of the fame game. Perhaps my very favorite quote in the film about celebrity today comes from Kid Rock, who imagines the Second Coming in a way that still has me laughing. $ellebrity can be seen in many cities this week -- or on Video On Demand if it does not hit the proverbial Theater Near You. To see a little preview of our movie (complete with Kid Rock's comment!) or even (incoming hint buy tickets, please go to www.sellebritythemovie.com. In the meantime, below find my play ...

MUSIC REVIEW | 'WE ARE PLASTIC ONO BAND'; Amid All That Experience, an Air of Innocence
NYTimes - about 7 years
In some ways Yoko Ono is still an amateur. At ''We Are Plastic Ono Band,'' mixing concert and tribute at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on Tuesday night, her voice could be shaky and her stage patter giggly and unplanned. She looked genuinely surprised when the audience interrupted her and sang ''Happy Birthday.'' (She turns 77 on Feb. 18.) She's
