Huffington Post - 5 months
By Liza Corsillo for GQ. Getting the approval of style-minded guys these days (and, well, us) takes more than great personal style. It also takes some serious grooming game. This is especially true for the world's leading men, who spend their days and nights basking in the limelight. After all, fame comes with responsibilities, like staying ahead of the curve when it comes to hair trends. It's a simple thing to expect when you realize these guys have some of the best hands in the business sculpting their perfect ’dos. In fact, without them how would you, or any guy, know what kind of haircut to ask for? And whose photo would you bring to the barber, for that matter? The good news is that this year has already gifted us with a fresh batch of hair gods, and more are soon to come (i.e., when Jon Snow comes back to life) as 2016 rolls on. To get you started, here are 2016's very best famous haircuts, so far. OSCAR ISAAC, THE WAVY GENTLEMAN RYAN GOSLING, THE OLD HOLLYWOOD HA ...

"I mean, I grew up on comic books and superheroes, so right now it's the rage. But I've been wanting to play him since I was a kid, so it'd be a dream come true... I'm game, man! Put me in a super hero movie, put me in a Star Wars movie, and I can die happy." Of all the heroes in the DC Universe, Nightwing is known for being one of the mos ...

It’s pretty difficult to think of Asian male actors in American media off the top of your head. When asked most people would easily name Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Bruce Lee, or Chow Yun Fat. Nowadays people might name actors such as Steven Yuen, Harry Shum, Jr., and Reggie Lee. Fortunately, modern television shows are beginning to embrace Asian male actors, who you can see in television shows such as "The Walking Dead," "Glee," and "Grimm"– an encouraging sign for diversifying casts. For a long time the only Asian-American characters were either martial arts experts or nerdy oddballs, perpetuating ethnic stereotypes. Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Chow Yun Fat, some of the most popular Asian American film actors, usually had to perform acrobatic stunts in their films. Other iconic characters, such as ‘Long Duk Dong’ (played by Gedde Watanabe) from Sixteen Candles, or ‘I.Y. Yunioshi’ (played by a white Mickey Rooney) from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, were portrayed as bizarre nerdy for ...

Brett Berk: Dance. Dance. Revolution!
The Huffington Post - over 4 years
This weekend, the fourth movie in the spectacularly successful Step Up franchise opens in theaters across America. In it, as in every other movie in the surprisingly compelling series, a group of dancers comes together to help solve a problem. In this case, the problem is that the wealthy developer father of the aspiring dancer/Anglo female lead is trying to buy up and gentrify a traditionally Latino neighborhood in Miami. In response, the local dance crew adopts the tactics and rhetoric of the Occupy Wall Street movement in order to mount public protests and defeat the displacement of their working class community. This may sound like pretty heady political terrain for a movie that seems little more than an extended music video populated by scantily clad former So You Think You Can Dance? contestants. But, there is actually a lengthy history of pictures like this -- which we will loosely call Dance-Off movies -- tackling social justice issues. John Waters, who wrote a ...
