Simple Project of the Month: Build A Rotating Time-Lapse Camera Stand
Popular Science - almost 5 years
Versatile Platform The timer can be mounted on most standard tripods, not just this GorillaPod. Larry Towe A panning platform made from a kitchen timer If you're into time-lapse photography here is a way to easily build yourself an affordable panning device using some simple tools and a kitchen timer. STEP 1 Drill a 15/64-inch hole in the center of the dial of a kitchen timer such as Ikea's Stäm model. Insert a ¼-inch-20 set screw. STEP 2 Drill an 11/32-inch-diameter hole in the bottom of the timer. Screw a 3/8-inch bolt or a 3/8-inch tap cutter into the hole to create threads for a 3/8-inch to ¼-inch-20 bushing (a threaded insert that allows the timer to be mounted to a tripod). STEP 3 To use the platform on flat surfaces, cut a piece of rubber mat, leaving a hole for the bushing, and glue it to the bottom of the timer. STEP 4 Mount the timer on a tripod (if desired), attach the camera, and set the timer. Set the camera to take pictures at regular intervals, and t ...

TV VIEW; The Telly's Take On Americans? Texans All
NYTimes - about 26 years
British television viewers, especially those of a certain age, got a great kick out of the gulf war briefings of Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf. There are several reasons, and some are obvious: namely, that the general was our ally, that the news he brought was overwhelmingly positive, and that he was visibly nerved up to make his performances as

As Masterpiece Theater opens a new season this evening, on WNET/13 at 9 o'clock, it strikes me that there may be a subtle correlation between Alistair Cooke's appearances and the quality of the episodes he has been introducing for more than a decade. The simpler the setting for Mr. Cooke, it seems, the better the series. He is always found on a set

In the late 1970s, Towb appeared in a series of TV commercials advertising Younger's Tartan Special beer, which were shown on very heavy rotation in Scotland. Harry Towb was married to the actress Diana Hoddinott for 44 years until his death. He died at his home in London from complications due to cancer. As his obituary in The Times said, "Asked, once, why he had become an actor, Harry Towb said it was because he had always wanted to be someone else." His "being fascinated by others... made him one of the finest character actors of his day," The Times continued. Towb, said one critic, "can be relied upon to add distinction to any production"." He is survived by Hoddinott and their children (Emily, Daniel and Joshua) and three granddaughters. Towb was Jewish and in 1983 recorded a documentary, Odd Men In, about Belfast's Jewish community. He would describe his interview with Belfast-born Chaim Herzog for this documentary as his proudest moment.
