Ilkeston end league season with fine win
Ilkeston Advertiser - almost 2 years
Elks entertained Market Rasen on a glorious spring day and blew them away with some fantastic open running rugby to complete a 38-5 victory. Elks started with the slope and made all the early running. Jake Lamb made the first of many line breaks and fed Chris Tipton who was not to be stopped from crashing over for the first try on eight minutes, Jono Falls adding the extras to make it 7-0. Rasen responded well with their hard running centre involved, but he was well covered by Isaac Taylor and Paul Stevenson and could find no way through. Elks were soon back on top with long spells in the Rasen 22, and from an attacking scrum Falls broke and fed Adam Corcoran who passedto Isaac Taylor then quickly back to Falls in space to score in the corner, Falls missing from wide left to make the score 12-0 after 25 minutes. Elks were straight on the attack from the kick-off through Taylor and Lamb but play was halted when the elks knocked on. Elks finished the half well with Tom Pottinger m ...

Leaders recover to dispatch Elks
Ilkeston Advertiser - almost 2 years
Ilkeston entertained top of the table Syston on Saturday and played their part in an entertaining game, eventually losing 31-20. Syston began with the slope advantage and made all the early running although both sides were making uncharacteristic handling errors making it a scrappy opening. The first major incident of the game came on 28 minutes and it made Ilkeston’s task that bit harder as Isaac Taylor was shown a straight red card for a spear tackle after Syston attacked through midfield. The remaining Elks 14 stepped up their game and defended heroically as Syston tried to gain the upper hand, with Alex Ayres in particular tackling strongly. Elks had an attacking line-out and after Chris Tipton caught well, the maul was driven forward but illegally dragged down, this time Syston reduced to 14 for ten minutes after receiving a yellow card. Elks kicked for touch and again won line-out ball, Tom Pottinger was on the attack and the ball recycled for Hugh Smith to have a charge. He ...
