The Presidential Timeline
Huffington Post - 26 days
So here's the timeline... Deranged sociopath takes the reins of newly created football league and fails miserably. Sixty-year-old rich a-hole brags to an entertainment reporter about how he can grab women's pussies because he's famous. Rich man who ran a fake university to screw working people out of their money won't disavow Klansman David Duke's support. Reality star host, who was given fourteen-million dollars by his father and, through a series of incompetent business moves made *less* money than if he just put it in the bank and literally did nothing, condemns the nation's intelligence agencies while throwing his support to an enemy nation. The Education Secretary nominee tells Congress, during her hearings, that she won't enforce the federal law that protects disabled students. Donald Trump becomes the forty-fifth President of the United States. Twenty-million Americans lose their health care. Americans pay billions of dollars for a Mexican wall that ...

Trump's White House Shaping Up To Be Home For Men Accused Of Domestic Abuse
Huffington Post - 2 months
President-elect Donald Trump has said that “nobody has more respect for women” than he does. Yet, his choices to fill the top slots in his administration tell an entirely different story. On Thursday, he announced that fast-food CEO Andrew Puzder was his pick for labor secretary. The same day, serious allegations that Puzder abused his ex-wife emerged ― putting him in the same company as Trump’s choice for White House chief strategist, Steve Bannon, and even the president-elect himself.  Andrew Puzder The abuse claims against Puzder were first published as a cover story for the Riverfront Times in 1989. You can read the full story here, which the Missouri-based weekly newspaper republished on Thursday. According to court documents obtained by the paper, Puzder’s first wife, Lisa Henning, alleged that he hit her and threw her to the kitchen floor during an altercation in 1986. Henning filed for a protective order, saying Puzder “attacked me, choked me, threw me to the ...

A Running List Of The Women Who've Accused Donald Trump Of Sexual Assault
Huffington Post - 4 months
On October 8, The Washington Post published footage from 2005 of serial misogynist Donald Trump bragging that as a famous man, he can get away with anything. Like kissing women without waiting for permission. And grabbing women by the pussy. Trump has defended these comments, repeatedly, as “locker room talk.” When pressed on it by Anderson Cooper during the second presidential debate, he said that he absolutely had not sexually assaulted women. But since Trump’s remarks emerged ― and well before then ― women have shared their allegations of sexual abuse against the Republican presidential nominee. Below is a working list of women who’ve accused him of sexual misconduct. If there are any we’ve missed, or if you have any tips, e-mail women@huffingtonpost.com. This post will continue to be updated.  *  *  * Summer Zervos Her account: Zervos, a contestant on season five of “The Apprentice” (and a self-described Republican) said in a press conference with attorney Gloria Allr ...

Trump Pleaded The Fifth 97 Times To Avoid Admitting To Adultery
Huffington Post - 5 months
In the summer of 1990, at the height of his bitter divorce from his first wife, Donald Trump was carrying on a very public extramarital affair with a former beauty queen, Marla Maples. As part of the couple’s divorce proceedings, Ivana Trump’s lawyers asked him under oath about his dealings with other women and whether he had been faithful to his wife. Instead of answering, Donald Trump invoked his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination. Over the course of five depositions that summer, he was asked approximately 100 questions related to marital infidelity. He pleaded the Fifth on 97 of them. “Donald preaches about his devotion to the Second Amendment, but it was the Fifth Amendment that was his favorite when he was deposed in the divorce with Ivana,” wrote biographer Wayne Barrett in his 1992 book, Trump: The Greatest Show on Earth. A New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement report later verified Barrett’s reporting on those depositions, which are still sealed. ...

Engagement Ring Donald Trump Gave His Ex-Wife Just Sold For $300,000
Huffington Post - 8 months
The diamond engagement ring Donald Trump gave his second wife Marla Maples sold Wednesday for $300,000 at an auction. Maples sold the 7.45 carat Harry Winston diamond ring for $110,000 to a collector after the pair's 1999 divorce. On Wednesday, it was sold at an auction at the Lotte New York Palace on Madison Avenue to an anonymous collector who cast bids over the phone, according to the New York Daily News. Maples and Trump were married from 1993 to 1999. The pair have one daughter together. “It’s been a crazy six months for me,” Maples told Us Weekly in March in regards to her ex-husband's presidential campaign. “I’ve had people constantly coming to me wanting my opinion about the presidential race, and I’ve maintained a lot of privacy." Trump was first married to Ivana Trump from 1977-1991. He married his third wife, Melania Trump, in 2005, after proposing to her with a 12-carat Harry Winston ring worth between $1 million and $2 million. Editor’s note: Donald Tr ...

Promoting Female Employees Does Not Let Trump Off the Hook for Sexism
Huffington Post - 9 months
Believe everything and nothing when it comes to Donald Trump. That's the message for American news consumers following Saturday's New York Times piece by Michael Barbaro and Megan Twohey about the Republican presidential candidate's personal and professional interactions with women. He'll call a woman he just met a "stunning Trump girl" as though she were his property, then defy his father by appointing a woman to a powerful position in constructing one of his actual properties. (It all got more complicated when Rowanne Brewer Lane, the "stunning Trump girl," went on Fox & Friends to say the Times misrepresented her.) So how do we make sense of Trump's actions towards women? It matters when we're talking about a person who could one day meet and negotiate with world leaders like Angela Merckel and Christine Lagarde on behalf of the American people. What we do know is that the Times wrote a piece about the type of man we've probably all met before, who loves both his mother and th ...

Trump Bullies The Press -- And The Press Yawns
Huffington Post - about 1 year
It's sad that Donald Trump is normalizing so many unsavory traits with his presidential push this season. He's normalizing bigotry and xenophobia in the campaign arena, for instance. He's also mainstreaming and manhandling the press. Just ask Trip Gabriel. The New York Times reporter was tossed out of a Trump event in Iowa last week. He was thrown out by a Trump staff member and a local police officer who suggested he was following the orders of Trump's Iowa campaign chief. (Days earlier, Gabriel had written a piece that raised questions about Trump's ground game in Iowa.) On the surface, that's a shocking event: the Republican frontrunner's campaign singling out a Times reporter and having him physically ousted. But since last summer, this type of bullying behavior has become quite common, and the media's response has become nearly mute. Indeed, Gabriel's ejection was noted in the media but didn't seem to set off any loud alarm. Covering Trump today means being confined to ...

First Nighter: "Massive Attack V Adam Curtis" Explains Today's World But Not Really
Huffington Post - over 3 years
Within minutes of Massive Attack V Adam Curtis beginning at the Park Avenue Armory, where it plays through Friday (October 4), I suspected it was going to be one of those events greater than the sum of its parts. And it definitely has myriad parts, including the four-member Robert Del Naja trip-hop band of the title, enhanced by singers Liz Fraser and Horace Andy, and 11 Drill Hall-encompassing screens courtesy of United Visual Arts in collaboration with Es Devlin. By the time it concluded after about 90 minutes of non-stop music played at standard Massive Attack decibel levels as well as after non-stop footage and still images blared (usually the same still and footage--often newsreel excerpts--on each screen), I had to concede that Massive Attack V Adam Curtis was somewhat less than the sum of its parts. My 180-degree attitude shift had nothing to do with the music--certainly not with Fraser's singing (for one, an hypnotic rendition of the Fred Ebb-John Kander "My Coloring Bo ...

Ivanka Trump: Why I’m Keeping Baby’s Sex a Secret
Celebrity Babies - People - over 3 years
Courtesy Fit Pregnancy Ivanka Trump isn’t one for surprises — especially when it comes to motherhood. But despite her inability to wait and discover what she’s having on delivery day, the mom-to-be won’t be sharing the sex anytime soon. “I’m superstitious,” Trump, 31, says in Fit Pregnancy‘s October/November issue. “I don’t like to tell people, but I don’t have the discipline to keep it a surprise. There are so many variables in motherhood that, those I can control, I like to.” However, Trump jokes she was recently willing to relinquish power over her pregnancy — but only to give husband Jared Kushner a good scare! “I had a long running joke/prank with my husband, where I told him the only thing he would have to do the whole pregnancy is pack the bag for the hospital,” she shares. “He initially thought I was joking, but I kept going with the joke and he became very nervous about it.” Trying to play the part of supportive husband while still sharing his fears, the New ...

Language-Culture Ceiling and Breakthroughs of Immigrant Women Leaders
Huffington Post - over 3 years
When I lived in Europe, I taught English for a living. By European standards, my English won frequent compliments. In the U.S., however, people keep asking me where I'm from. I never take it personally; research shows that after puberty new language acquisition usually comes with an accent. Still, I could not help but notice that the media and entertainment industries foster language and culture intolerances of non-native English speakers -- often typifying them as primitive and impenetrable to reason. Remember the odious, Italian father of the fiancée (Everybody Loves Raymond), primitively-passionate Pakistani Babu, the irrational Iranian Soup Nazi (Seinfeld), even Steven Colbert stumbling over the name, "Ahmadinejad," implying that the man is as ridiculous as his name? Come on, Colbert, that's below your own standards! In reality, as shown broadly in Rosina Lippe-Green's book, English with an Accent, accents support and perpetuate social structures with unequal power relations whe ...

Ivanka Trump: I Won't Tolerate Daughter Arabella Being "Spoiled, Bratty"
US Magazine - over 3 years
As Ivanka Trump prepares to welcome her second baby this fall, the busy mogul mom is working hard to prep daughter Arabella Rose, 23 months, for a sibling. "We're navigating the sharing thing right now -- I think we're, like, 70 percent of the way there," Trump tells Us Weekly of her daughter's latest milestone. PHOTOS: Star families are Just Like Us! Good Luck!
Huffington Post - over 3 years
By Karen Freifeld NEW YORK, June 14 (Reuters) - Rupert Murdoch appears to be seeking a quiet divorce, based on the lawyer he has chosen and the absence of incendiary allegations, people with knowledge of the case and experience of high-profile New York divorces said. Divorce papers filed by the media mogul on Thursday comprised a short document saying the marriage is irretrievably broken, according to a person with knowledge of the filing. The document, which formally starts a divorce action under New York's no-fault law, contains no details of wrongdoing, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity. That, his choice of lawyer and a series of pre- and post-nuptial agreements all favor a strategy for ending his 14-year marriage to Wendi Deng Murdoch as quickly and quietly as possible, the experts said. "While she might try to get more money somehow, and he might be willing to gi ...
